Just purchased a 1992 GTi 16V. It sure looks really nice on the side of my 2001 GTi VR6.
The car has 80k miles, and I plan in keeping it in my garage for a long time.
Could you guys list some of the maintenance things that I should look in to, in order to make sure this car will run strong for a long time.
Right now the car is in excellent condition and it is totally stock.

Thing #1 TIMING BELT! If it brakes "bye bye GTI" so change it right away unless you know for sure it's been changed recently. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Is there an echo?

My car got a bad head gasket around 100K....it starts leaking at the back of the head so you won't be able to visually tell until the car starts overheating, you smell coolant, and see white swirls on the dipstick.
I third the timing belt, too. Other than that, these engines can be rock-solid as long as you keep up with regular maintenance.

Timing Belt is for sure on my list, but what else?
I am also looking for ways to improve the lighting without changing the stock look.
Question for everyone. What are the major diferences between the US spec quads
and the euro quads.
I will post pictures as soon as we have a nice sunny afternoon.

16v trannies have the same rivet problem as the rest of A2s, right? Get the bolt kit in there and replace all the seals...

The E-Code H4 7" lamps have a better light pattern. (More ahead on the road and more on the driver's side) You can also add relays/larger gauge wiring to improve the efficency of the bulbs and creating slightly better output.

check and change the dizzy cap.... two of my friend's that bought 16v's (one ws a rocco)... had them fail w/ in a week of driving them.. and you don't wanna be mad at your new dub this early in the relationship.... i also would like to see pics!!
