Volkswagen Andretti Motorsport had a strong, if somewhat disappointing result in Dallas this weekend, at the second Red Bull GRC event of the season. The last event’s big winner, Tanner Foust, could only manage third in his Beetle in the weekend’s final race, while teammate Scott Speed took fourth.

The result is a disappointment, not only because of their strong performances last week, but also because they started the final race in first and second positions. The two Beetles headed into the first corner neck and neck, but after driving each other off the racing line, two cars sneaked past them, and they couldn’t take back the spots.

Despite finishing farther down the rankings than they would have liked in the final race, both Beetles were on form this weekend, winning every race they entered this weekend, except, of course, for the last.

“It’s kind of a shame to end our race that way,” said Speed after the race. “Our car is really fast, like we proved all weekend, and it’s too bad that we didn’t get a result that reflects that speed.”

Following this weekend’s results, Patrik Sandell (155 points), who won the final race in his Ford Fiesta, jumps ahead of Scott Speed (150 points), and into second place in the drivers’ championship. Foust meanwhile hangs on to his healthy lead of 180 points.

Foust and Speed will try to get back to the top of the podium in two weeks, at the season’s second double header, in Daytona, Florida.
