My 2L bottom end will be done on Fri. What oil should I be running in the fresh motor? Synthetic? What weight?

It's my understanding that you should run dino oil (not synthetic) during the break-in period. I don't remember the reasoning, maybe someone else can enlighten us.

Dino oil. Helps the rings seat properly. Run it for at least 5k miles, then switch to synthetic if you desire.

Weight should probably be 10w30, correct?

Tell me more. I am sure the machine shop will tell me what they think, but I wanted to hear it from you guys.

My buddy used dino oil in his A1 16 valve project car rebuild until it stopped burning oil (rings seated). He started to worry, but then it stopped. (took more than 5000K) Then he switched over to Mobil 1.

If you use a cheap 30w non detergent oil for 300 miles or so, the rings will seat more quickly with no bore glazing.

The reason for not using synthetic after a rebuild, if i understand correctly, it to prevent the rings from glazing over before they seat. The synthetic is TOO slick.. and prevents the necessary friction and wear needed to seat the new rings.
