friend's new 2k2 gti 1.8t pulls to the right -- any ideas?

i haven't driven the car yet. he picked it up last week, and it's pulling to the right on the highway. i had him check the tire pressure, and the left front was WAY overinflated, but even with the pressures set correctly, it's pulling to the right.
dealer took car in immediately, and allegedly adjusted the toe-in -- but the car is still pulling, even though the dealer said they took it for a test-drive...
car has 500 miles. any suggestions? he's hesitant to try another dealer since the warranty specifically says alignment isn't covered.

most likely it is the alignment.

didn't think there was much adjustment on these -- any idea why it could be off on a brand new car?

It can happen at any time...a big pothole can mess up the alignment etc...

could have come off ship with misalignment due to someone else driving it and hitting pothole or the like. the dealer may have never aligned it before delivery

Sounds like misalignment to me.
Few weeks ago I went over pretty harsh bump and made small dent on my passanger side rocker panel, and anyway since then my GTi pulls to the left.
No biggy though, I will just have to take it to dealership and have them realign them. This should be done under warranty. Hope so.
Peace!

and chance it could be a bent rim / wheel out of balance?
just making sure we have all bases covered.

i dont know.. why waste time wondering when he can just take it to the good ole friendly dealer and have it checked out...

it was checked out yesterday, and they adjusted the 'toe' and sent it on it's way. wondering if there's anything else we should have him ask about.

Well, I wouldn't rule out defective tires either.
Take it to a good tire shop and have front right balanced and checked for possible defect in radial band.
You might want to try putting the spare on and drive around and check if it still pulls.
What is the tire make series and size?
Check if there are any others with similar problems.
Have the right rotor checked for warp or unusual wearing.
Good luck and don't brush it aside because likely in 10K miles your friend will have to but new tires with no chance of warranty b/c they are worn out. The mfr. will say it's because they were improperly inflated (a favorite) or he raced them, etc...

Usually when they do any alignment work, they take it on a ROAD TEST before they "Send you on your way"...
Are they (the dealer) denying the fact that the car is pulling?
If you bought the car new...and it had 500 miles on it, that's messed up!!!
Take it up with the service manager and get them to get things straightened out at no charge.

Mine pulled to the left right from the factory... This was fixed after a trip to the dealer though...
I just had my 10k service, and with the included tire rotation the car again is pulling very slightly to the left (with emphasis on slightly)! soooo, I guess I have to go in and have it fixed again...
Re: friend's new 2k2 gti 1.8t pulls to the right -- any ideas? (John A)

My new GLX with 4500 miles pulls to the left. There is no camber or caster adjustments on these, only toe in. The alignment has been checked and is in VW specs. The tires were swapped side to side, not change. Been back to dealer 3 times they drove it so they could see what it does. I gotta believe the chassis is out of whack from the factory. I hate driving this thing. I also have an 88 Jetta, goes straight down the road beautifully. I'd rather drive my 0ld car thats worth about 500 bucks than my new 26000 dollar one. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks
