Front water neck leaking even after replacement!!

661 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Kierowca
Mabye im not doing this right.... I replaced the waterneck coming out of the front of the head(digi) and it still leaks. Is there any trick to getting these on right?? The one i put on the side is working great. The first time i replaced the front, i used a new o ring and smeared a little blue silicone on there and bolted her up.... Leaked... Second time used the same o ring and greased it up... Still peeing all over the place. You can wiggle it and it gets better sometimes, but the bolts are as tight as i want to go on the aluminum head! Any tips/suggestions?? I just need it to work for about 3-4 more months... 2.0 x-flow going in this winter/spring!!!

When I read the subject I thought maybe you didn't use a new o-ring. Since you did it should have been ok.
Did you use a new neck? Used ones get brittle with time. Did you clean the mounting surface on the block? I have replaced these without using silicone and had no leaks.

i think the silicone was your mistake.

I think some go a little crazy with sealants. I've had good luck by making sure that the mating surfaces are clean and a new gasket/o-ring is used.

Thermoplastic or aluminum? I'm thinking plastic due to the years in your sig. Anyways, a used water neck made of plastic is a no-no, they warp and thus leak. A new one is a must. If you must keep a used one then clean it up and reinstall the o-ring, followed by the silicone. Be generous with the silicone, make a mess if you have too. Let this sit over night to harden, then add coolant. This will buy you time.

The old o ring was ugly looking!! I just replaced it again with a new plastic neck and o-ring without using any sealant as suggested by the hamster and a couple other people. I made sure the head was nice and clean this time... Not leaking yet.... Thanks for the help guys.
