Hi! I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to an issue I am having in the cold weather. I have a 1999 4-door VWGolf with keyless entry. Here is my problem:
-when it gets cold I can't open the driver side and passenger side door using keyless entry.
- I can open the driver side door using my key (by actually putting the key into the key hole, very old school!)
- the signal appears to be getting to the car because 1. i can hear it, and 2. the alarm system is shut off (the little red light stopped blinking)
- my guess is that the keyless entry is not providing enough "power" to unlock the door, and this only happens in the cold.
- This happened once last year during the winter.
- This has been happening to me everyday the last week or so in the cold.
any tips or suggestions on how I can fix this problem (within a reasonable budget of course!) would be much appreciated!!
Its hard to get friends to come out skiing with you when they have to crawl through your car just to get a seat!!
Thanks!

Have the same problem. I used lock deicer, but my driver side door has been frozen for two days now. http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif Im going to dump a bucket of boiling water on it.

that would probably be a bad idea.. the idea is to get the water out of the lock not put more in../ it will freeze even worse..

carry a lighter on u.. or dont lock your car... heat up your key with the lighter and stick it in the lock, leave for like 10 seconds and turn the key... always works for me

i had it happen to me once, never though about the light deal though! and when it happened and i went through two cans of deicer i got a bucket of hot water and poured it all over the door too. it wasn't just the lock that was frozen, it was the entire door toolol. it worked though

I squirt PB BLASTER into my locks, give it 5mn. The petroleum in there just eats away at the ice

Mine does this. The handle just sticks, and won't pop the door when it's very cold. Use some WD40 or Pb blaster, don't use the cheap lock de icer that you get at wally world, it generally does nothing. WD 40 is always a good be, as that's exactly what it's made for.
