I have just updated my R's navigation to V11 (2021) and therefore no longer need the V9 card. This is a 32gb model and worked in my MY17 Golf R.

You are responsible for checking fitment/compatibility/etc.

New these are $120.

Asking $75 shipped USPS Priority.

Pictured below is the actual card and DVD case it comes in.

So it's multi use but you had to purchase it? Does the dealer have an option for the update?

Partly posting because I'm interested if I can answer some questions. Thanks!
VW does not provide free map updates in the US market, the only way to update your maps is to purchase a newer SD card. This card was purchased from one of the online VW dealerships. Not sure what you mean by multi-use.

SD card is located in the glovebox on the MK7 R, with the car turned off eject the current SD card and insert the new one. You can check the map version by going to the Setup > Information menu in the Navigation screen.

How would I determine if it would work with my car? The previous owner took the SD out of my 2016 R before I bought it. If this would work I'd be interested.
Which MIB unit is in the vehicle now? Here is the thread I detailed the update I did -
