Thanks for the direct link, I think work blocked my image in the OP.

Last question: Nothing is pre-wired in our US spec cars for this eh? What would have this switch done for a taxi - top lit sign or rear passenger lighting?

well, i think it will turn on the dome light and maybe turn off the radio (headunit) but im not sure.
