wifes car. back story.... mk4 golf 4dr 2.0. straight factory (with the exception of a CAI installed by father in-law) new plugs 2 years ago. problem may have started about 4 months ago (car started to act as if it was running out of gas at 1/4 tank) that problem has since resolved. drove home last night (it was raining, but car ran fine, no CEL). woke up to go to work and car didn't start. sounded like no fuel. closer inspection showed no fuel at the rail, then no fuel after the fuel filter; fuel before the filter just fine. replaced fuel filter. fuel now good to go at the rail (checked the shrader valve and the end of the fuel rail. unknown exact fuel pressure). still no start, same turn over sound. scanned car got codes for the coil pack. replaced coil pack and plug wires (cylider 4 looked as if it arched). still no fix. re checked fuel delivery but the line was bone dry. new filter bone dry. disconnected and no fuel drips.... thinking its the pump. curious if anyone has any insight. I'm not familiar with this motor (came from 2.7t and 1.8t world) thank you in advance for any help offered.

Fuel pump fuse 18 located in left edge fuse panel, fuel pump relay 4 on replay panel, or Fuel Pump. Disconnect the fuel line and jump the fuel pump with a 12V battery source. If the fuel pump runs, check the volume of output. Be careful not to cause any sparks.

Once you have fuel in the fuel rail, using a pressure gauge, check for a minimum of 36 psi fuel system pressure.

Fuel pump fuse is 28, fuse 18 is something with the headlights.
