While driving to school, from Seattle to California, I was yelled at by a gas station attendant in Oregon when I tried to pump my own gas. What is the deal with mandatory full service gas stations in Oregon? I know its a good was to create some jobs, but I would like to at least have the option of pumping it myself. I get jittery sitting in the car while some guy is filling it up.
Who grew up with only full serve? Who feels more comfortable taking care of it themselves? I don't know, I just get some odd satisfaction out of pumping my own gas. If price were not an issue, would you still go self serve?

New Jersey is the same way. It's a bit unsettling... I think the only time I've ever had full service was in Jersey. In those situations I usually get out, walk around for a bit, and stretch my legs while the guy's pumping, and kind of casually make sure nothing funky is going on.

I hate full-serve. When I would drive my wife's TDI, I didn't mind full-serve. That's because the diesel pump is always the dirtiest, most foul-looking, disgusting pump in the station.

Full service is really obnoxious because it's so SLOW. You have to wait until the 1 guy working there is done with all the other cars, so he can start filling yours up, and the sometimes have to wait 5 minutes after the tank is full so he can take the thing out and take your money. Total pain in the ass. It's even worse with diesel fuel, because they tend to ignore you when they see a car pull up to the diesel pumps. Like they cant fathom a car that actually runs on diesel fuel.

Brazil,Paraguay and Argentina= no option full service only.
At least in Brazil they are very quick about it and actually check your liquids for you.

In Japan it is like 1950. A pack of guys will descend on your car. They will pump gas, check fluids, check air, wipe your windshield, and they will even empty your ashtray. They all smile and are very friendly. When you pull away they all bow. And every gas station is like that... gotta love it! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

In NY its mandatory for gas stations to have full service because to many people just dont know how.. It also usually takes about 5 mins for the guy to show up, so when i pull into the gas station i just jump right out of my car and start pumping my own gas. Usually the attendents dont care because it is just one less thing that they have to do.

It really sucks, and I hate it. Plus you get the added thrill of saying "super unleaded" and them putting regular in anyway. Oregon gas is mostly pee-water anyhow, so it's just a kick while you're already down to not be able to pump your own gas.

maybe downstate it's like that, but up here in east bumblef**k most of the stations are self-serve. a few have "full serve pumps" but those are hardly used. a few stations are full-serve only. it's not consistent either as you can have a Mobil station with self-serve only on one block... and then a half mile away another one that is half full and half self-serve.
i like full serve when it's like a million below zero out. when i'm in the Porsche... i pump the gas because i've had people put the wrong grade in by mistake.

If you pay in credit card, it must be NO. If you pay in gas and as attendant's good'ole tradition of leaving a few cents off, mostly yes.

We don´t have full servic here anymore since the 70s. So you have no choice but to pump yourself.
When I was in Canada last year (ON and QC) it was randomly full or self service. I couldn´t spot any difference pricewise between full and self service. Full service was nice though, different from home and the pumps work a bit differently than here, so I couldn´t put myself to shame for not operating a pump correctly.
Nice for holiday, but at all I prefer pumping my gas myself, because you have more control then.

I really don't like it. But it's different depending where you get the fill. In the small town where I live people are friendly and it's not so bad, but in Portland I've had attendants treat me like sh!t, and that is not cool.
