Does it actually prevent tail lift at high speed, or is it strictly for looks? I have seen a couple sciroccos without them, and was wondering if drives differently with it off?

Re: function of the rear spoiler? (VWhombre)

Judging by the wind action that is clearly visible when the snow that has been sitting on the car is blown off at speed, I'd say it is definately functional. On a 16v anyways, and the 8v spoiler brobably does too.

Re: function of the rear spoiler? (87stuna)

Yeah I thought it was because of the way when you are driving in the rain as long as you keep moving, the rear window never gets wet. That means there is a serious amount of air going over the back, and hitting the spoiler.
