my emergency brake is acting a little weird. the cables and everything are cool, the problem is in the lever. it seems kind of crooked, it won't push the light switch down, and the rachet piece works like 50% of the time. it seems like if i reach in there and hold the rachet piece when i pull up on the lever, it works, but it won't always catch on its own- like the toothed pice wants to move up with the lever. i was thinking of drilling a hole in the body at the base of the brake handle, across the little channel that holds everything and putting a pin or bolt through the pice with teeth on it so it will stay down. but i'm still not sure how to get everything lined back up so i don't have to keep wedging a penny down in the switch to keep the light off. any suggestions?

Re: funky e-brake (lucas)

Take the bulb out of the cluster, just don't drive off with the e brake on.
If the metal 'wheel' is moving then the tab that holds it is either broken off or bent. Your handle could be so crooked that the 'wheel' doesn't hit the tab but I have never had that happen. Putting a bolt thru the mount to hold the wheel doesn't work too well. Either the cables get pulled across the bolt and eventually break, or your handle will stick up in the air and you'll only have half the range of movement. (I tried putting a bolt through it)
I haven't found a fix for it yet.

Re: funky e-brake (white rabbit)

I think that the holes where the pin goes thru may be oval (worn out) you can probably che it by moving the lever side to side and see if there is play around the pin, if there is take it out, drill all the way thru to make the hole round and use a larger pin or bolt II'm not looking at the assembly, just an idea)
