Funky Idle and Stalling Problem...

855 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  AEfwd
My girl's car is acting weird... sometimes you can be sitting with the car running, and the idle will be fine, then all of a sudden, it will begin to studder, and almost stall, and sometimes stall, but if you rev it up, its fine... Check engine light comes on sometimes when you are sitting still, then goes off when you start driving... its weird... here's her mod list...
BroSpeed Header, TT Exhaust, Gutted Cat, AutoThority Chip, 80 shot direct port n2o...
BTW... this car has had its distributor replaced 3 times... could it be another bad distributor? (And they have been replaced by VW each time)

Try cleaning the air idle control valve with some fuel injector cleaner spray. It sounds a lot like that might be your problem. While you're there might as well clean the throttle body and MAF sensor. Also if you've been having distributor problems try cleaning the hall sensor inside the distributor.

hmm... never thought about the Hall sensor... one question... what does that do? As far as cleaning the MAF and TB... already done that... i'll try the IAC though...
Re: Funky Idle and Stalling Problem... (ScrapinSi)

The hall sensor wheel sometimes gets dirty which messes with the hall sensor telling the ECU how far the distributor is advanced or retarded. It's not a real common problem but if you've gone through distributors before it's a possibility.
Re: Funky Idle and Stalling Problem... (Fast2.0L)

definatley sounds like a mass air sensor problem, what did the fault codes come up with?
Re: Funky Idle and Stalling Problem... (Fast2.0L)

also try the o2 sensor
Re: Funky Idle and Stalling Problem... (AEfwd)

checked the codes, and the only code was MAF... When the funky idle happens, i checked the code, and got what i THOUGHT was EGR.... but wasn't sure...
Re: Funky Idle and Stalling Problem... (ScrapinSi)

there you go man, replace the mass air sensor also known as MAF
