Funky idle at stoplight and around corners. What the heck?

341 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Tbird Pimpistik
As title says. When car warms up my idle goes up and down (sometimes stalls out) when I come to a stop and when I coast around a corner. Could this be a fuel filter problem or ISV? How do I test the ISV? Thanks for the help. Jason

I never had such a severe problem as yourself but I did replace the ISV due to small idle stumbles, just to be safe. The car runs and idles great but it's difficult to tell if it was due to the new ISV or some other repair.
I would recommend that you take off the ISV and inspect/clean it with carb cleaner. I used to see a good bit of improvememnt by doing this alone, which prompted me to simply replace it. At the same time I ran a line from the crankcase breather down to the ground instead of into the intake because of the oil that was collecting in there and along the throttle body.

Uhm, what is a ISV? (Some valve i presume?)

Idle Sabilizer Valve= small metal cylinder with an electrical harness on one end and two air tubes on the other; located between the motor and firewall, to the right of the throttle body, under the plastic trim that holds the sparkplug wires.

it could be other things
vaccum leak
a simple idle screw o ring like mine was
dont always assume isv , its the most expensive fix, when the others are ie free or under $1 to fix
