G-60 Supercharger Buy or not to Buy?

707 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  mrkrad
I know a guy who I can get a G-60 Supercharger off of. He picked this up awhile ago off a wrecked corrado. He recently wrote off his jetta and now does not need the charger. He said he will just buy a car with a G-60 in it already. So this charger is not in the greatest condition and needs a rebuild. How much does a rebuild kit cost? This charger is not hooped just needs some TLC. I can get it for about 50 bones.
Thanks guys

http://www.kompressorKanada.ca is your best bet to get it rebuilt in Ca, in the US you have http://www.bahnbrenner.com and http://www.GruvenAuto.com
Re: G-60 Supercharger Buy or not to Buy? (SSj4G60)

Would this be the best route to go? What HP and lbs-ft figures would I be looking at if I put this charger rebuit on my 16V 2.0L bottom, 1.8 Head P&P with cams? I heard of someone saying you can boost it to 12 psi if you get a new fuel managment system? Is that true. Thanks a lot again. I still cant figure out how to post the topics on the scirocco mailing list. I send my mail to that address and it dont show up on the list!
Thanks again

Dude its not as easy as it sounds but there are a few running around..The one that was running around here was in a cabby and was a 1.8 16V not built for boost but at stock boost...8.5psi it made 190whp...But FYI if you can get that charger for 50 bucks grab it..if it can be rebuilt its worth alot more than that...good luck..

So a 16V setup with a G60-charger is possible. Where would the charger go. I guess you make some custom brackets and stuff and put it on the front side of motor behind radiator. When I look at it is there anything I should look out for. For 50 bucks I mean who really cares it will make a nice paper weight! hehe. So what would a stock charger give out in terms of PSi and how much can a 16v handle?
Thanks again

Anything is posible if you have $$$ and patients
Re: G-60 Supercharger Buy or not to Buy? (DOHC 16V)

The alternator gets put below the charger or if you have a/c is goes to the back of the motor near the firewall, the charger goes where the alternator is, battery to the trunk...you can buy kits that help you with the swap. Check out OttawaG60, he is in the process of completing a 2.0L 16v G60 swap in his Corrado. He has been working on it all winter, but part of the reason its taking this long is because he opted not to go with the conversion kit.
GoodLuck
Craig
edit: he also has a 2.0L16vG60 Club going on yahoo where the whole project is being documented

My stock charger hit 13 and a bit psi at WOT.
Now it hits 18 with a stage IV!

nobody else can help?
Re: G-60 Supercharger Buy or not to Buy? (DOHC 16V)

I am in the process of building a 16v G60.
G60 for $50? If you don't want it, I'll take it

If your in BC, send it to kompressorkanada, he can inspect it for you and tell you what's up inside (pics too if you'd like to see it for yourself).
As for putting a G60 on a 16v, it can be done.
I need a little more info from you though, what car is it going into, how's your swap knowledge...etc...
You can email or IM me and I'll help you out.
One word of caution, it's not a simple swap...

just open it up. You'll see the good or bad news. Regardless spend the $$ to rebuild it (yourself) or somehwere else.
