Rento, do you have a round "thing" to the left of the hr/min adjuster????

The Late style Cluster '93+ (that originally came with the orange needle gauges does not have this on the Bezel). The gauge modules could have been changed though, so don't go by the needles or faces alone. This is because the Cluster itself has a special diagnostic mode and this port it is not needed. The spot on the PCB is still there though regardless.
So, if your cluster has a MAP sensor on the back, it should have the service port on the bezel/glass. If not, then it is the later cluster and should not.
I am 99% sure what I stated is all accurate.

So you dont think that part is really needed, other than for testing the cluster?
I mean this part, of course.

Re: (vwpunk)

That plug definitely is stock. Most of my clusters have it (I have many of them!)
Like Shawn said, I'm pretty sure its for diagnostics or something similar.
I do like the idea of hiding the cellphone mic in there though

Re: (MikkiJayne)

Ok I just checked on my collection of clusters
Image

Late VR6 - no plug
Late G60 - plug but no connection behind it
Mech odo - plug with connections behind it
B3 no MFA - no plug
Does that help at all?

Re: (VR SEX)

Thanks guys.. I am gonna need a late VR cluster for my G-60.

I really like the Idea that VWPUNK posted about the cell microphone in the black pug that come in the early clusters.
(altough I doubt they had cell phones with bluetooth back in 1990.
Image
) Sorry, I had to bust yer ballz.
I may actually use that hole for a mic. for my future navigation system...
(system that I would have If I didnt spend the money for it on booze and girls in Thailand, but thats another story
Image
)
but I wonder if thats a good location or putting in near the sunvisors would be a better idea to pick up the voice.

Re: (xtremevdub)

The M3 Cabrio has the mic mounted in the centre of the steering wheel for best pickup with the roof down. It works too! I reckon it would work quite well in the cluster http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Why do you need a VR cluster for you G60?
Image
The tach won't read properly since its expecting a 6-cyl engine, not a 4-cyl.

I need the outer shell and glass of the VR and I am keeping the G-60 guts.
I may even start that DIY today

You are talking about just using the Late Vr glass w/o the port right? Because the Late Vr PCB won't work on a 4 Cyl. You're tach will be off and you won't have MFA Fuel Eco.
You may want to read this thread if you haven't already

And mine looks like that, just like those 2 VR's...
And I wont be using the "black button" for now..
To be crystal clear, this is the only part I will be taking from the VR cluster.

Tomorrow those Passats Vr6's in the junkyard are gonna feel my wrath!!!
