Hi,
a friend of mine has a problem which I would like to help but don't know the answer to. he just bought a VW Beetle type 1 1965 model. the gearbox works fine till he engages in reverse. when this is done the gear is stuck there and is very difficult to disengage, and continue driving or parking. this is quite annoying especially when you are to park your car in a parking lot and cant get your gear to shift.
Thanks Guys any answer is appreciated.
keep on bugging

Re: Gear stuck (eagleeye3-2008)

wonder if his hockey stick is getting stuck? mine got stuck in 1st once.
has he checked the tranny oil? has he adjusted his clutch? has he checked to see if he has a bad shift rod coupler under the rear seat?
or could be time for a new trans, I'm sure you could find a used one for cheap, any swing axle would work and it could be swapped in less than a day, go to the junk yard and try to find one if you have to. they usually last a long time.
rebuilts are around 400-600, used go for 50-200 depends
