okay, so i'm looking for an exhaust, money is of little concern. i'll spend up to $800 for a good cat-back system. i've looked at a lot of reviews and whatnot, but i'm still torn!
this is what i'm looking for:
FULL stainless steel.
gotta look good of course. DTM.
deep low tone, without being obnoxious.
QUALITY!
this is for a 2.0 golf, by the way. someone, HELP!! let me know what you have/had, what your friends have/had, anything will help me! i want some first hand opinions, the reviews don't really cut it.
supersprint maybe?
anyone know anything about gillet?

Re: general exhaust help!! (VRsixVW)

quote:

i would get Remus - Magnaflow - or TT
best quality for the $$$$

well, here's my problem. i've heard remus isn't worth the price, and i'm not a fan of techtonics. even with the "stainless" option it's not full stainless, just the pipes, and the muffler is still aluminized. living in connecticut, on the beach, i REALLY feel i need 100% stainless steel. and i don't like the idea of having to buy tips seperately, i'm high maintainance
i haven't looked into magnaflow much, i'll check into it though.
thanks!!!

Re: general exhaust help!! (ninetyseven)

Gilet is part of Ansa, both of whom are owned by Maremont (us based exhaust abd suspension manufacture).. The Gilet branded parts I've seen are all just plain OE replacement.....How did you come across the Gilet brand?? They're relatively obscure in North America..
Ps, because I am a wholesale distributior of Magnaflow, my opinions may be viewed as biased.. However, FWIW , No One offers you the same value as magnaflow...You get much more than what you pay for....The sound...great on 1.8T,2.0, and 2.8's...Barely audible at idle, but you do get that true eurpean sport sound all the way through the rev band... Listen to some sound clips, if possible talk to others and listen to their cars...Sound is basically personal preference...After that power is virtually the same when comparing similar Size catbacks using straight through mufflers...Stainless Steel is definately the way to go....And a manufacturer warranty...the longer the better...Looks of course play a big role, but you can also change tips(for a small price) on any of the systems you find........

Good Luck!

Re: general exhaust help!! (Magnaflow.CA)

wow that's a lot of info, thanks!
i found gilet on a review page. it sounded like the best, and was rated in the "second bests" group. i liked the review, but as you said they're hard to come by, therefore i couldn't get much more info. as it turned out, the guy who wrote the review ended up going with a gilet, which made me like it even more. just can't find much more on them, such as a suplier or prices. i'm going to look into the magnaflows more though, thanks again.

Re: general exhaust help!! (hkk735)

the installation isn't a huge problem, my cousin's got a body shop with a lift and all that jazz (that's actually where the car is now, picking it up this afternoon. wooo, fresh paint!)
when i say high maintainance, i mean i'm a snob haha. it's gotta be top of the line. TT just doesn't do it for me. not sure why. perhaps because it's so popular? i don't know! but thanks for the advice!!

SuperSprint is the way to go, if you want total quality and performance all wrapped up into one package http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Plus they have a plethora of tip designs to choose from http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: general exhaust help!! (ninetyseven)

I went with Neuspeed SS cat back. Was about 670 shipped from rapidparts in NY. Reason:
Looks, Sound, Performance..million mile warranty.
I have been very happy. If I had to do it again...I would not go dual DTM tips...I think that they are played out....maybe something in the line of dual oval...like Remus uses?
GOod luck. Everyone and their brother on here will tell you TT. They build a great product....don't forget that you will pay extra for a custom tip from them...then you have to get it welded on.

Re: general exhaust help!! (maflyboy24)

haha, okay i personally really like neuspeed. i just got an email today from a friend of a friend RIPPING APART neuspeed cause i guess he heard that's what i was considering. the neuspeed SS catback is what i've wanted for like, two years!! i think it's what i'll go with in the end. i've gotta coordinate (hey, i'm a girl!) and neuspeed offers the things i want.
as far at DTM tips, it's my favorite look. i know it's most common, but i wouldn't say played out. it's the most classic (next to a single straight that is.)
and the bit about techtonics is one of my biggest peeves with them. i'm not doing a sleeper, part of the effect i'm going for here is the look, and i hate having to shell out for the tip on top of the system.
i've pretty much settled on neuspeed http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
