figuring I better adjust my insurance in case something happens, I called State Farm and it looks like I'll be reclassifing the Caddy as a 'classic'
The insurance will go down a bit but I will only be able to drive it about 5k a year.

A local appraiser is coming over next week, he does street rods and the like so hopefully it will go well. He is going to fully document and photograph everything. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Anyone know where I could find comparisons or what he might be able to use as a comparison -- since this is basically a one off

Might add that make sure you have a bunch of receipts to show the appraiser when he/she shows up. That gives them a basis to answer any questions in terms of how much such and such part cost or how much the project in general cost.
That also helps.

Thanks guys! I've got a draw hidden from my wife with just about every receipt, I'll go through it this weekend and organize them.

I am going to be getting my Rabbit appraised this spring. Do you have to classify the car as a classic once you insure it for the appraised value? For one thing, my car is a daily driver during summer months and second, my odometer doesn't work anyway so how would they figure how much I drove it?

You Know, I have thought about this whole appraisal deal for our cars. Thre are plenty of appraisal experts out there for older hot-rods and muscle cars, but none really tha cater to the 'import' market (like it or not, we are in this category). Quite a few of us have over 10K at least in vehicles, that if declared a total loss, would recieve 20-25% of that.
I wonder f anyone would be willing to step to the plate on this matter, as it would be an interesting endeavor.
