Does the writing on this chip make sense to anyone ? Its nothing like what people have said should be on it. I bought it used off someone who had a 95 GTI so I assume it will work on my 95 GLX. I bought the chip with my car already away in storage so I'm not aware what my ecu # is.
IF its not the right chip for my ecu can I send it back to Garrett and have it flashed ? Does he charge to update the chip to the latest version ? Worst comes to worst I know I can sell it.

That looks like a pretty old chip, Garrett pre-GIAC that is. Probably a good chip, but I'd look into getting a newer version one for your ECU as the programming has gotten better since then. I'm not sure if he'll honor the free upgrades if you don't have proof of original ownership though. You can always try though!

I believe they charge even if you are the original owner. Think it's about $50.

You can find your ECU code directly on your ECU. Its under the plasitc mollding under the passenger side wiper blade. If I'm not mistaken 95's are OBD1 and the chip has to be soldered into place. I just ordered a GIAC and will tell you what it looks like.

That number probably matches the ECU number off the car it will work in. So it should match a number on the top of your ECU.

So no matter what car this chip is for , they can flash it for mine + get the latest upgrades ? If that's the case then its $50 well spent.
Does Garrett have to do it or can any GIAC shop in town do this ??

$20 to flash it. Some 95's chips are socketed from the factory too, like mine

I have yet to look at my ecu, I'll find out in early March I guess.
