Re: GIAC v10, FM 3" turbo-back VS. Stock DYNO CHART (chris86vw)

quote:

hmmm that doesn't look like 33hp on top of the claimed 27-32hp from the GIAC chip. Now are peopel starting to see the problems here?

I don't have a the same mods. That's 16HP off Greg's graph. You also have to consider different dynos (Mustang vs DynoJet), different engines (AWW vs AWP), etc.
Chris are you only here to try to slander other people and products That's what it looks like from us...

Re: GIAC v10, FM 3" turbo-back VS. Stock DYNO CHART (A-Money)

yoru right it is on a mustang and not a dynojet, but if you low ball the GIAC chip and say it makes the 27, that would be 181 at the wheels, add in the FM exhuast and you have 197, thats a 16hp gain.. Differnece are goign to be the same on a dynojet or a mustang, although peak numbers may not be as high between the two. So you got 16hp or so for 1200 bucks minimum, remember that EC test, just cat backs were getting 15hp for half the price. Just saying I thikn the FM exhuast is a bunch of marketign hype. Do I sell anything to compete against it no, have I been approached to sell FM yes, am I goign to NO, why I dont' believe in it as a product. I have never tried to put anyone down, go back two years on here you will see that all I am after is the truth, sick of the lies.

Ok, so show us the "truth". Which exhaust do you believe in Chris?
Honestly I believe a 3" exhaust is a 3" exhaust. What seperates different brands is build quality, ease of install, fitment, price, customer service, etc. For the most part brand X and brand Y are going to have approx the same performance results unless they have really screwed up.
To get back on topic. I'm not trying to make any statements with this post. I just wanted people to see some real world results from my car and it's mods. Please use them as a 'loose' reference.

okay this might sound silly, but at 5400rpm when the BASE vs TEST torque converges, how come the TEST HP is so much higher? maybe my eyes are just going bad tonight..

this dynograph is not complete, where the FM really shines is from 5500-7200...
I hope you're not scared to rev your engine higher

Suggestion: DO another dyno and take it 7k http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I'm confused by your question. The TEST (i.e. mods) run holds more HP to redline. This is a good thing.

We've experimented with running the dyno to a higher RPM but after 6100 or so it climbs real slow. Besides the peak HP and Torque readings are before 6k. The stock K03 is designed for low end power... Now on my next turbo setup I hop for both HP and Torque to continue until redline...

It is not the peak numbers that are so important, it's the total area under the curve that wins races

Dyno it again and hold it till 7k

edit:...

Re: GIAC v10, FM 3" turbo-back VS. Stock DYNO CHART (chris86vw)

Chris, I'm not just trying to support FM, but the 15hp EC gained also included the Neuspeed lower intake pipe, and most people have concluded that adds at least a few more hp(~5), so the FM gains like 5hp over a good cat-back, not just 1hp. Whether that justifies the extra cost is a personal decision, and maybe a 2.5" downpipe would make the same amount of power as 3".
Big question: Anyone tried insulating or coating their exhaust with a ceramic coating? One of the people that commented that 3" was too big said it might be Ok if there was ceramic coating to insulate it. Just a thought. Also, anyone know how much this would cost? $100?

Re: GIAC v10, FM 3" turbo-back VS. Stock DYNO CHART (swett)

Basically so far for about $1500 he got -
43 peak HP 1,000 - 1400 RPM sooner than stock
and
60lb ft of peak torque around 3,800 RPM and TONS everywhere over stock
http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif Works for me!

Thats bang for the buck right there. Also, the 3in FM is ready for any future upgrades, no need to change exhausts later.

Speaking of which, that graph isn't to scale. The "Test" y-values don't correspond to the RPM x-values. What's up with that?

don't hp and tq have to cross at 5252 rpm? i thought that was an unchangeable rule? your test graph has them crossing around 4500 ?

Thank you! That's all I'm trying to say with this post. I do not want to get into a brand war...

Re: GIAC v10, FM 3" turbo-back VS. Stock DYNO CHART (A-Money)

your peak hp line is peaked at 4350 and dropping... seems weird... don't think i've seen any 1.8t graphs like that before... (peaking at such a low rpm..)
if you go through all the dynos on http://www.18turbo.com, most of them (irregardless of the mods) start losing hp at around 5k...

We are still working out bugs in the GIAC AWP software. The ECU is pulling boost and/or closing the throttle plate after 4k or so...
This is just our current progress.
