Hey everyone, I'm wanting to drop a 16v into my GLI, and was wondering on the going rate for a 16v motor, with low milage.
Thanks

look around. Find a wrecked passat, which isn't a desireable car to most. Talk them down, then take the brakes and tranny while you're at it for reasonably cheap.
You will find a nice 1.8 or 2.0 engine without tranny or wiring for something around $700-800 CAN and like $400-500 US I guess- (I doubt I did the currencty conversion correct)

I sell the 1.8s for like $150 for the whoel motor and the 1.8 bottom end for $50. The 2.0L goes for $400 and $450 with a head.

I picked my 2L 16v up for $900 canadian with just over 100,000 kms on it and damn solid compression.
You should really get compression numbers on any motor you are considering, they tell alot more then the number of km's does.

Around here a CIS-Motronic 2L with full harness and accessories with about 70k out of a Passat goes for $400.

Here in Vegas at the junkyard you can get a complete longblock with the intake manifold for like 80-150 bucks depending on which guy is at the entrance. The wiring harness would be another 25 and about the same price for both the exhaust manifold and downpipe. You just have to pull them yourself.
