Golf R oil weight

The owners manual states that 5W-30 or 5W-40 can be used but the sticker in engine compartment states 5W-30. I’m a new owner of a 2019 R so I found that to be interesting. I’m planning on using 5W-30 since two places note 5W-30. Does anyone use 5W-40?

I live in cold climate (but car is in garage overnight) use 5w40 as it gets pretty hot here in the summer.

Use Liqui Moly 5W40 Leichtlauf High Tech which is VW502 (approved per 2018 owners manual), BMWL01, MB229.5 and Porsche A40 which is apparently a pretty good combination.

Found this thread to have interesting information about oil for 2018 models, main difference 502 vs 504 is that 504 also works with DPF equipped diesel engines (lower ash content) but 502 is fine even is it is 'older':

I carry a quart around as well as hard to find VW standard oil in gas stations around here.
I’ve decided to go with 0w 30 synthetic oil. Mobil 1 makes one for a reasonable price in a 5 qt jug. However, I don’t see anywhere that it has VW 504 00 certification/standard. I’ve used Mobil 1 for years. It relatively cheap compared to Motul. Does it matter if it‘s not officially VW 504 00?
Forget about the weight, just make sure it has the proper VW approval so 504. If it does not say it, it is not approved. Does it also say 502 in your manual (this gives you a few more options), my 2018 has both 502 and 504 as approved oils.
