Good break in?

Hi all,
Would a road trip going at 55-60 mph for 180 miles one way and then another back be a good break in for a Jetta 1.8t? Otherwise, what other ways have you guys used to break in your new Jettas?

It's probably not the best to break in a car by going on a long trip like that, even though you are only doing 55-65 mph. I personnaly feel that a steady speed during break-in (for a long period of time) isn't good - you need to vary the speed every once in a while, and help the piston rings sit nicely. I would try to put on as many miles locally before you go on that road trip. Where are you going, BTW?
Re: Good break in? (GettaJetta)

You need to give the car at least 1000 miles for break-in. And highway miles are not as good...you want to vary RPMs for the 1000 miles...like some city (stop and go traffic), and some highway driving.

Is there a speed limit to consider...or you can still bring it up???
Re: Good break in? (VolksDude)

Try to stay under 65 mph.

If your car is a stick... try and keep the engine below 3000 rpms for the first 3000Km (not sure what's that in Miles... sorry.. )
after that... go get an oil change... feel the oil that got changed out... you can feel that there are iron fillings there.
next from 3000km to 10000km... try not to go over 5000rpm... and after than... do whatever you like..

Yea, stay in between 55-60, and under 3 grand on the tach for the first 1000. Then go nuts.

You shouldnt change your oil before 5k miles. They add a breakin oil that you are supposed to leave in. The dealer said that there isnt a break in period. Altough you shouldnt use the cruise control for the first 800 miles.. I hear they redline the cars at the factory anyways..

Re: Good break in? (VWTornado)

I put over 700 highway miles on my car the first weekend I had it. I varied the engine speed by switching from 5th to 4th on the highway. This moved my RPM from the high 2000's to the low 3000's while keeping a normal highway speed. I also let the car rest for about 10 minutes every hour. I also avoided hitting the brakes too hard. I am now above 1000 and get more aggressive when I want to (not often.) I will get my oil changed for the first time at 5000 miles when I take it to the dealer for my 5000 service.

Thanks for all your replies guys.
sniper: haven't gotten it yet, still deciding. I just wanted to see what people went through for their break in periods. I've been looking at the Jetta and now the GTI just because it's cheaper and seems to be just as cool. I'm also looking at the 2.0s just because I like to buy games and toys ... getting a turbo won't let me do that.
