Hey, I'm a new Socal resident... (okay, I'll admit... a new driver) and figure there's no one better to ask this than whoever's peeking in on this forum.
As things are, drag racing doesn't, I don't think, suit my personality type, so I'll likely tend away from the strips... what does captivate me though, is drives like canyon/mountain roads and any sort of back roads where handling and driving skills other than fast upshifting (
) matter.
So I guess what I'm asking is where are there good canyon roads or back roads (i.e. few cars.... if only late at night) where I can take my dub out for some "intimate time" together?

Any help appreciated!
[and yes, I'm in Down Town LA]

The toll road between long beach and san juan capistrano and the 15 between escindido and riverside (save the couple of miles around the border control checkpoint) are great spots for top speed runs. Nice smooth straight roads and you can see for miles
Julian is fun. Rancho sante fe ROCKS especially when you find somebody with an exotic to chase. Be careful though I have a friend that lost it into some bushes there

Yeah and be carefull on the toll road between Long Beach and San Juan Capistrano the CHP like to patrol the freeway. I know this because I take it every weekend.
Palomar Mtn and Ortega Hwy are fun too.

Re: Good drives (jimmi_james)

Glad to see some responses... and thanks for the info.
I've tried Topanga and some of the ones after it (going N on PCH) and Topanga is by far the most fun... unless un-guarded cliffs (i.e. no barrier to stop you from falling off) mated to super-narrow roads are your thing... in which case a road called "Big Rock" might be "fun".

Where are Glendora Cyn rd and Angeles Crest Hways anyway, and are my options limited to these?
again, much appreciated. Next time you guys are up there keep an eye out for a silver GTi. (oooh, how exotic.

Glendora is Azusa Canyon . . . 210 Fwy, Glendora Exit. Be careful Jerry almost went off the edge here

Angeles Crest Highway is 210 Fwy, Angeles Forrest Hwy. Be very careful this time of year. In the past week I've hit black ice about a dozen times.

I'll second the top speed runs on the 15 between riverside and escondido. But be careful for helicopters because the "speed limit enforced by aircraft" sign is not just to scare you. My first ticket was had for 95 on that stretch, and I've had many good friends get their high speed tickets there also. For anyone around temecula area, the road to the dulles area is awesome!
