Funny?! ok... those guys scare me, I used to live 5 minutes from them, and my rally car is still 10 minutes from them, I have to go in there every now and then, and it freaks me out. They let you walk around the yard?

yea, funny as in it is quite an experience dealing with that place. I walked around in the yard once, they are really uptight about letting you go in their yard, and i do not remember how i got them to let me. But thats quite the place, from all the old dead VWs laying all over to the mounds of old parts in the shop to their mom who is the 'secretary' and takes care of your bill while ashing her cigarette in an upside down piston.

I heard that.... I wanna know how you got to wander the yard!?
I dont remember how, I think I might have just asked Alan. Or maybe it was the time i was looking for my big bumper, and I had seen the car with the bumper on it I wanted, and I told them this and they let me go look at it. Either way, I dont remember HOW. Why do you want to know so bad???
I remember one time I got caught starting to head over by the yard, I think is was Mr. Lehman senior, he caught me in my tracks, said you're not allowed over there.
Tell me more about this Lehman's place. I am on the northwestern side of the state but have found little to nothing in the line of aircooled parts. I am restoring a 79 Beetle Vert and I am looking for a Michigan source for parts. Parts Unlimited in Pontiac is the closest thing I have found. Nice place, a little on the high side for parts. I don't mind a saturday morning drive on a parts quest. Its half the fun of this project. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
Re: Good junkyards in West Michigan (BUGSPORT2001)
its in greenville, on 14 mile road, maybe four miles east of us 131. They have a rather substantial graveyard, with many aircooled's (I drive a watercooled, so I didn't pay THAT much attention to the really old stuff). Might be what you're looking for... I don't know if they have aircooled parts other than in the yard, you'd have to call. phone# 616.866.0064, or 616.866.2107
BUGS....
Do you mean Part's Place in Auburn Hills?
I'm about 10 min from them. They are a little on the high-side for parts, but if I'm in a pinch...they usually have what I need!
You're right...half the fun IS the drive to get the part!!
Bernie's the man! He's the guy who I bought mine from, infact Im gonna go visit him right out after school so he can fix my bumper. If your in Freeport, you might as well swing by hastings and visit me and my friend with his Golf
I'd give you a number and exact address right now, but his cards in my car outside. I can hook you up later today, though
