Anyone notice a grey goop oozing out from underneath your doors? It gets really hot in the summer where I live and I believe it's melting whatever the goop is., then gravity does the rest.
A sealant/waterproofing measure perhaps?

Re: Goop oozing from your doors? (Echinacea)

I believe this stuff is called cosmoline. It is sprayed in the doors and under the hood for shipment overseas to prevent any kind of rust. I suppose the stuff being in there also helps to prevent rust for the life of the vehicle.

On the main page of VWVORTEX there is a link to take the Volkswagen Factory Tour.
I quote: "After the paint has been applied, an additional internal precaution against corrosion is taken using the hot wax cavity flooding process patented by Volkswagen. This protective measure is used on all models."
I found the same suff and figured that is what they are taling about. I reccomend reading about the tour. IMO it's a great read.
Aloha!

It's slippery stuff. It added a challenge to the PDR guy who took out a dent on my left rear fender flare when he accesed it through the CD changer compartment in the trunk.
