on the way to work, got on the highway and started to accelerate and it felt like i hit a brick wall. the epc light and check engine light are on, car has erratic idle and wont accelerate hard, and felt like it went into limp mode. i shut the car off, waited 30 seconds or so, and started it back up no problem, no check engine light. anyone have a clue what the hell it could be? any help would be appreciated

sounds like a coil pack is going to die very soon.......

Just had the MAF replaced on my GLI, bunch of 04 1.8t in Atlanta getting them replaced.

im having a similar problem, ASR light goes on and wont go off. erratic idle sometimes and every now and then the car will stall.
i researched it and most likely its a bad MAF as BillyG60 said. its a pain in the bum but as far as i know it cant harm anything too bad.

well i brought it to the dealership and it said i had 5 codes in the system. all for throttle valve control malfunction. the "tech" basically cleaned the throttle body and reset the ecu, clearing the codes. until i got on the highway not even 10 minutes after i picked it up, i get the same god damn problem. so im going back to the dealership tommarow to raise some hell, ill keep you guys posted. thanks for the help

I've had one for so long that i decided to keep it. Its just the knock sensor from my timing from being chipped but i don't care enough to bring it in as its just gonna go off again anyways

well after i reset the computer for the 30th time it finally has no check engine light. i drove it around last night and drove it to work this morning and didnt get the usual problem.

why would you just keep resetting your computer 30 times

take your car back to stock if it isnt already and get what is most likely the coil pack(s) or MAF replaced

Sounds more like a MAF than a coilpack.
Coilpacks would leave a misfire code and a flashing MIL.
Curious to know what the 5 codes that were set originally...

for one, the 30 times was an exaggeration, more like it felt like i had to do it 30 times

i had 5 codes for throttle valve malfunction. and as for mods, its stock
