Got no response from the suspension forum...

824 Views 26 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  dreaminginboost
I posted this today in the suspesnion forum. Maybe I am getting impatient becasue I'm so used to the quick-reply MK2 forum, but whatever. here it is:
"I want to get a good racing suspension, basically. What parts would I need to buy? WHat parts do I need? What parts are in the whole suspension that I'd need to replace? Like I said, I'm clueless on suspension.
I have a stock suspesion and want to lower my car about 1.5 or 2 inches and be able to have a good racing setup. Thanks!"
There you have it. Anyone?

get the h&r cupkit or the weitec set-up.
change both strut bearings and upgrade the control arm and rear upper strut mounts with the poly bushings.
great ride and try to get both front and rear strut braces. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
check my jetta pics in my sig for pics of my ride with the h&r set-up.

Hey, WHile I'm thinking of it, ar you going to Carlisle's Custom Compast show on may 3rd? I posted a topic a while back to see who's going that is somewhat local. I'm going with a group of us. Hopefully it'll be as sweet this year, as it was last year.

its at old bridge raceway park which is also known as englishtown, where waterfest will be held finally, in jersey. we will be hosting that event and its usually a good one. although for the pst 2 years we had rain and a snowed out event. still alot of fun and there will be 1/4 mile and 1/8 mile racing that day.

Cup kit is for show cars. it is soft and lowers the A2 way too much. Your handling will go south if you use Cup kit .
Try a set of H&R race springs (1.4" drop not 2.5" like cup kit) use blistiens or RPI shocks and you are set. Oh get a 28mm rear sway bar.
You may also go for Shine racing set up it does not lower at all but it is the ultimate in race set up.
Note Lowering an A2 is not a good thing.
Re: Got no response from the suspension forum... (kickster)

kickster: Actually, I kinda like the way A2's look not lowered ,but with rims and such. I think I like it better than if they are lowered ,but that's just me.
I like the way the H&R springs set up sounds. Is that 1.4" all around? I think I might consider that one, when I do get a good suspension, but I'll keep asking/looking aoround.
clone: Is this event a 1 or 2 day event? Would it be a good idea to come up a day early, or is there nothing to do untill the the day it starts? I live in North East Ohio, btw.
Thanks for the help, y'all!

Real suspensions for real race cars: http://www.srsvw.com
Shine Racing Services http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
The cup kit is crap for anything but lowering, no performance to be had there. Better is the Bils/H&R combo, and beyond that is the Shine Real Street and Race setups. Give Shine a call, they'll set you up with exactly what you want.

I trust the Shine too, but I'm on more of a budget. I went with Spax, and I'm very happy with mine. The handling is great at the track, and the car isn't too low as to be unpractical around town either. BTW, I'm dropped about 40mm all the way around.

the show is a 1 day event on a sunday, if u wanna come up a day b4 u can chill with us since we gather to wash the cars that night and some of us wind up breaking night.
hey, the cup kit isnt all that crappy like u guys say. i like the handling and the drop isnt bad. try 2.0 in the front and 1.7 in the rear. where did u get 2.5?
kickster.
although i do agree that it is a lil too soft for a so called aggressive set-up.
heres my car with the cup kit.

Sweet! I'll check my schedule and see if that Sunday works or not. I'll see if some of the other guys want to come. Is it a big event?
BTW, I still like your car http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Got no response from the suspension forum... (MattTheFatCat)

Yea....Shine is considered the best on this Forum
http://www.srsvw.com/
They lower about 1.25", which is what a set of H&R sports do. They will get a VW as close to neutral as it can be...
Re: Got no response from the suspension forum... (A2RicedGTI)

if you guys think a lowered a2 dosent handle good you really need to take one for a ride. my car is lowered over 3" and on the street the only thing limiting it is the tires rubbing on the feners, if i raise it 1/2" i dont have that problem and i can take turns much much faster then i ever could with my old h&r/bilstein sport setup. dont speak unless you know.
-andrew
ps-i know all about the suspention geometry and stuff and if i was on the track i would be raised almost all the way up int he front and then cornerweighted, but on the street my car handles better then any spring/shock setup i have seen yet. if you cant afford coilovers, get a cupkit...dont look like a truck.
Re: Got no response from the suspension forum... (Andrew Foss)

Andrew!!!!!! I dont get it, you say your car handles better slamed on street where there are uneven surface but on track a car with stuck hight would handle better!!!!
My car is lowered 1.5" (eibach sportsline) my friend car is lowered by 20" my control arm is not pointing up my frineds car the arms are pointing up. On track his car was pushing (understeering) way more than me. His car with stiffer springs was also leaning more than my car.
Slaming a car will make your car push too much. It may feel like a go cart before the Car's limit (it just feels that way)
