ok this is the first time I ever painted anything... so it came out kind of orange peely
but you dont really notice unless your right up on it looking real close.
I think I did a pretty good job!!!
I didnt remove the chrome part... I masked it off instead. 5 coats of color and 5 coats of clear. I think I might have also got the coats thinner than they should have been .... but oh well.
I stuck it back on with 3M tape.... the stuff that is whitish looking and has the red backing. Got it from a friend at a body/accesories shop.
anyways... a few pics.
Look for more later this afternoon when the car is clean... I'm in the midst of painting the side markers and i'm gonna wash the car before I reinstall them http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

was your paint in a spray can already? mine's in a regular paint can, since the dealer wanted $40 for it.
i went to a regular paint shop and had it mixed.
:sigh: time to borrow an airbrush.

very nice, I need to do that to my car. The black in the middle is faded like crazy...it sucks. I also think a black or anthracite logo would be good on mine, with the middle painted to match the car (silver).

I've found whether you prime, sand, or just lay on paint...they all come out a little orange peeley.
I've done this 5x over and tried everything. Must be properties of the plastic.
I'm getting mine professionally done when I get my Oett grill painted next week. Maybe they can get it 110% smooth.

jaydub...
yup mine was already pre-mixed in a little paint can.. packed with a can of clearcoat. 8.95 per kit... I picked up two of them
JMan... I wonder if its because the plastic itself is kind of textured??? I'm noticing my side markers are comming out alot smoother?

I thought that too, but I've sanded backings to smooooth and it still did it. I think the paint drying on that surface (not metal) pulls and puckers a little. Cause it did it on smoothed and primed as well.
Did you sand the #'s off your markers? Gotta do that.

That looks great! Awesome considering you just masked it off and didn't remove the backing. I did the same and also got the little connecting piece between the V and W. Not a super high res pic but you can tell.

Re: Got rear emblem color matched :) (boobert)

wow bora! yours looks much nicer than mine. I wish I had gone thicker on the coats. specially the clearcoat. oh well.. perhaps one day I'll redo it.
Maybe some polish and wax will bring the shine out more?
Anyways.. I got my paint kit from the dealer. It comes with two spray cans packaged together. One color and one clear. I did the rear emblem and both side markers with one kit.
I was gonna wash the car and take more pictures but theres a 50mph wind goin outside!!!
