Grease leaking out of my CV Joint boot.. recommendations for repair?

I have heard that there is a complete assembly that I can purchase to replace this or I can pack the bearings myself if I have ALOT of time on my hands. But just to make sure that the job goes as smoothly as possible, what do you guys recommend for repair? What have you done to fix this? I'd like to get to this before it starts grinding on me.

Yeah, I would recommend that you repair it.

Recently did mine. Get the boot repair kit for very cheap (i think under 15). i took the axle off so i could put it in a vice and then rebuilt it. maybe an hour of time. not bad. messy. good luck.

The easiest way would be to buy the replacement unit and just replace the whole thing. But it will be the most expensive.
The next best thing is the the ONE PEICE replacement boot, it is a lot more work but will work well.
Do not use the split boots. They are the easietst to install, but they dont hold real well and will start to leak again. If you are selling the car it would be the way to go, but if you are keeping it, go with one of the other fixes.
Go with your best time vs. money decision.

Where do you recommend that I go for either the boot repair kit or the full replacement? Estimate on cost for the full replacement?

I mostly agree here except the selling part. If you have lots of time then go with the one-piece part. But by putting a cheap part on a car as such the next owner will eventually have to deal with it. It makes you look bad and may give them a bad taste regarding VW's http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif Do the job right and you do it once, making everybody happy. I'm learning this with my house, if only the PO repaired things right the first time by using quality parts and quality labor (cheap-ass bastard)

I had the passenger side CV replaced on my wife's car (the entire half shaft) for $100 installed. I had the CV boot replaced on my car (again, on the passenger side) for $50. I think the passenger side is the easiest to replace.
