Grinding Gears?

Hey guys,
I got a slight problem with my gear shifting. Everytime i put it in first gear fast, the car grinds, but its okay if I put it in slowly. I'm sure, i got the clutch all the way down. What can it be? Bad tranny? Clutch?
By the way its a G60 that i have.

Re: Grinding Gears? (Piezo)

Hello? Anyone have any idea whats wrong?
Re: Grinding Gears? (Piezo)

Are you trying to downshift into 1st ??
Re: Grinding Gears? (Piezo)

Is the car moving while you do such things? If so, either learn how to double clutch, or... stop.

Re: Grinding Gears? (92BlkSLC)

Its stopped at a light, the light turns green and i put it into first, the gears grind, but if i put it in to first slowly, it doesn't grind. It works fine when i downshift using heel and toe or double clutch. By slowly, i mean i shift it into neutral pause for a half a second then i shift it into first.
so any ideas?
Re: Grinding Gears? (Piezo)

Now may be a good time to flush and refill tranny fluid w/Redline MT90.
Re: Grinding Gears? (fahrfrumlosin)

Change your tranny fluid and check your linkage and you should be fine http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

oh thanks guys! Tranny fluid change it is!!!
Re: Grinding Gears? (Piezo)

Unless the trany shifts to 2-3-4-5 leave it and double clutch it in to first if you have to. I have a VR6 and if im at the lights waiting it will grind if I shove it in fast. Take is slow, then go fast!

Re: Grinding Gears? (XGTiG60X)

1st gear doesn't have a synchro so fluid change and linkage adjustment is the way to go.
Re: Grinding Gears? (BadAssCorrado)

Change your tranny fluid, adjust your shift linkage, and if all else fails check your slave cylinder.

Re: Grinding Gears? (Corrado Dad)

never down shift to 1st. but get in the habit of going 2nd THEN 1st. it stops the mainshaft from spinning and u may never grind like that AGAIN. also good for reverse grinds. 2nd to 1st to reverse. just remember put it in 2nd first.

Re: Grinding Gears? (XGTiG60X)

I do the exact same thing, with shifting into 1st and for reverse. I have not grinded since. I have been doing that for about a year now, no problem!

Re: Grinding Gears? (Piezo)

Not a VW, but if I put it in 1st gear at about 5mph when I'm almost to a complete stop. It slips right in like butter. If I wait until I completely stop its a little tougher to get into first. It has something to do with the speed of the transmission input shaft. This method of getting into first will vary based on the type of transmission.
Re: Grinding Gears? (Syruz)

mine grinds too...well ill shift, say, from 2nd then to first, but it still grinds if i am not going really slow or stopped, and then i still shift it slow. the tranny fluid was replace last year...is it just the linkage then?
