I am putting together a group buy on some phenolic intake manifold insulators. The main thread started in the G60 section, but someone suggested posting in all the areas that have compatible engines.
They will work on '87/'88 Roccos according to the manufacturer. I called them and they said they would give us a group buy price of $59 for 10-25, or $49 for 26-50, or $40 if we get 51 or more. The normal price they charge is $69.95 + shipping. They said they would ship for free on a bulk order as well, which would save another $10 ea. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
The kit includes all the washers, bolts, etc needed to do the job. I'm getting a couple myself. Anyone else want to get on-board to get the cost down?

The part can be found here: http://hallmotorsports.com

So this Insulator just replaces the Mid-Point Gasket? Can anyone please give me some more info please.

It goes between the head and the intake manifold. They help keep heat from migrating from the head to the intake. The ones in the pictures on the website site look like they'd fit on a non cross-flow 8v head.

What about all the heat that rises up off the head to the intake. There is no way around it. With the intake over the motor, its going to get warm.

Re: Group Buy - Phenolic Intake Manifold Insulators (VW_NUT)

On an 8V the intake is not over the motor, it is behind it, quite unlike a 16V. But there is a considerable amount of heatsoak coming up from the exhaust manifold which as I'm sure you know is only about 1/2 a cm away from the intake at the closest point. Having a phenolic spacer in there will help get rid of the heat soak from the head which includes the extra heat from the exhaust ports which makes it even more relavent. There will still be soak from the proximity of the exhaust manifold but to cure that you need a crossflow. I would be very happy to have one of these in my car.
KaleCo. put a lot of effort into that sight.

i'm sure MUCH more heat is dissipated from the head than rises up from the exhaust. the temp of the outside of the exhaust manifold is probably a lot lower than side of the head.
