Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate

The topic says it all. Would switching from the stock size flow plate on the CIS injection to the larger, was it 80mm?, GTI flow plate be a good idea? I would think that more air means more fuel which means more power right?
Are we talking about better throttle response? or an actual gain in HP/torque?
I have access to one at the local j-yard.
This is what I have so far on the engine..and this seems like a good next step perhaps:
1.8l 8v (2H) from a 90 Cabriolet 10:1 c/r
CIS injection (non O2)
Knock sensor ignition setup
GTI big valve head
TT 268 hydro cam
TT 2" cat back
Autotech 4-2-1 header
Audi throttlebody
port matched intake runners
and of course a K&N air filter.
Would putting the larger flow plate on help at all?
Thanks in advance guys
peace

Yah, I'd say go for it. The 60mm is pretty small. Atleast you'll know that restriction is taken care of. The other option to consider is whether you use a thin rim or thick rim 80mm plate. The thick one is richer.

My car already has the tendency to run rich. Would the thin rimmed one be better to snag? How do I tell the difference.
Peace
Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (80rabbitc)

Thin one is 3.2mm , thick one is about twice that. your 80 should have the larger plate already.
Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (80rabbitc)

Yah, alot of poeple will use the thin rim one as it runs leaner and is good for a few extra hp up top. The thin one is 3.2mm thick at the top of the lip and the other is 6.35mm thick. The thick ones often jave a 67K sticker on the outside, don't know whats on the thin ones. Look for one in a 16V car.

Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (vwpat)

With the measurements....what is actually being measured? The height of the 'bowl' the width of the sides? etc.
Thanks again
Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (80rabbitc)

60 mm and 80mm are the diameters of the plate inside.
The rim thickness( or width ) is measured at the top where the boot clamps on. It is measured from the outside dia to the inside dia at the very top.
Once you see a few the difference is pretty obvious. Thin is 1/8 " thick is 1/4" .
The lip on the 60mm is way way big.
You can find the 80mm's on any A2 cis car or some early A1 cars. My 81 Roc came with a 60mm in the states. Are you sure you don't have a 80mm now?
Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (GDR)

I may have the 80 mm, I am going to go out and check ASAP...well..when my door locks unfreeze and I can pop the hood I will check

Since, most likely I already have the 80 mm unit, is there any benefit to getting the thin rimmed one?

Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (80rabbitc)

while your discussing flowplates, i have a question. i just bought the euro injection for my gti, and it came with the warm up regulator and fuel distributor. how do i adjust it when i swap it out? or does it come ready to run, just needing a mixture adjustment after its installed? any help would be appreciated. i got it 2 weeks ago, and didn't want to tackle this til i was sure of what i was doing.
Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (Steve H)

Steve,
I'm not familiar w/ the Euro setup, but I would imagine if you're changing fuel stuff, you'll need to at least check, and possibly tweak the mixture. I'm curious as to why you're doing this?
Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (millerwj)

Bill, i did it for an increase of 8-10 hp, and a more accurate fuel injection system. at least that's what i read. it was a kinda crap shoot. these were selling for over $600, but i got it for $175. the gains seemed like it would be worthwhile. besides, when i first asked for opinions about it, a couple of guys who had installed it, gave it the thumbs up. i'll keep you posted.

Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (Steve H)

Use German production sensor plate
Re: Gti flowplate vs. stock rabbit flowplate (aginghare)

Questions for Steve:
1. Does the Euro CIS injection system look any different than the injection originally on the car?
2. What gives the extra HP
3. Where did you get the Euro system for that price?
Thax in advance, WWR.

Steve,
8-10 hp from just tweaking the FI system???

I really doubt it. 1 or 2 hp, maybe. You're talking ~10% increase just from changing the FI system. Also, as you know, I've been involved w/ A1 GTI's since "back in the day", and this was one of the mods that I never heard much about. I'd want to seem some dyno sheets before I plunked down even $175 for this setup.
