GTI, GLX Leasees!!! How much do you pay?

352 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  GonnaGetAGTI
I think I'm going to lease a new 24v GTI or GLI. I bought a 2001 GLX for $24200, and put $3500 down. My payments were $450 for 60mos, at 8.75%.
Shoud I buy or lease a new one? What do you guys pay for your lease? Please provide details (i.e. length of lease, interest rate, residual, sticker, negotioted price, cap cost etc.). I really appreciate the help.

You payments on either will be lower if you lease, than if you buy. Plus you will not have to put a big chunk of change down. The real question is, are you a good candidate for leasing? How many miles a year do you drive? How long do you keep your cars? Do you keep your cars in good shape? Do you like to mod them? Do you like the idea of never ending car payments? Do you like to drive something new every two or three years? These are all questions you must answer.
Additionally, it really makes no difference what other people paid for their leases. Lease programs change every month and if you happen to lease during a month when they are running a promotion, then your payment will be lower than if you had leased the month before or after.
If you want the lease rates and residuals on the Jetta GLI, I can give them to you. Right now, the lease rates on the 24V GTI are not available, but you can assume they will be similar to the current 12V VR6 GTI. I have those too if you want them.

I had to carry the depreciation on my 2000 Beetle when I traded it in so my payment is a little high. I paid about $1000 up front and my lease is $380 a month for 48 months. If your gonna lease put down as little as possible as they will just stick most of that in their pockets. Be VERY careful with Dealerships and leases, they will bend you over hard!! Use the lease calc on the VW website and do not accept much more than that from a Dealership (if any).

Re: GTI, GLX Leasees!!! How much do you pay? (NY SLC 93)

2001 GTI GLX bought in October of 2000. I pay under $400 a month for a 3 year lease. No money down.
Don't put any money down on a lease if you can. Basically, all you are doing is lowering your payments - payments which are already lowered since you are leasing. Additionally, you are putting down your hard earned cash toward a car you won't even own. You have no equity in the car for the life of the lease. If the car gets totalled or stolen, goodbye down payment. If you have that much money saved, finance the car instead or invest it in something else. Just some advice. A rule of thumb is that you put as little down for a lease as possible...

Any pricing info that you can give me is appreciated. If you also have prices on the option packages of these cars, that would be great too. Thanks.

Ouch! Just financed my GTI for $32000 (incl tax) CDN. $5000 down, $550 a month for 60 months at 6.9%. This is financing - not leasing. Your payments sound really high, but I can't be bothered to play with the numbers. A 60 month lease? Really?
