are there really no non-luxury packaged gtis out there??
Re: GTI owners. luxury or no luxury package? (billgti)

Got it here. But I think this is not a luxury package. Monsoon and Sunroof -> Come on. IMO a luxury package would be a GLX thing with all the nicities it comes with(ie climactic control, that front gauge with all info, etc...). I got the package because can't live w/out a sunroof in Tampa. I open it everyday.
Re: GTI owners. luxury or no luxury package? (billgti)

Lux package came with the GTI GLX for mine, so I didn't really have a choice (all I really cared about at the time was the VR6). But now that I have it, I don't think I would want to go back.
heated seats.... mmmmm...

I definately got the luxury package

Yeah, me too. I didn't want the extras, but got them anyway because I didn't have a choice with the VR6.
After living with it for over a year now, I just can't see myself living without them. Makes driving that much more enjoyable.
If your wallet says it's o.k., then go for it.
Re: GTI owners. luxury or no luxury package? (billgti)

At least for 2001, pretty much most of the "luxury" features came at the base level GTI. I think mine was almost as clost to "stock" as you could get, with the only extra being cold weather package (which, where I live, is worth every penny just for the heated seats). The only things I DON'T have are leather, monsoon (useless as I replaced stock HU immediately), rain-sensing wipers, special function steering wheel, wood grain trim, climate control... Hmm, maybe more things than I thought. Oh well, it still feels like luxury to me, especially since the last car I had was a strip-down Neon.
As for the Monsoon, save your money and go with an aftermarket HU.

I've got every option that was available on the 1.8T.
I love it, but if I had a choice I would have not gone with the monsoon + in dash cd (came for free). Monsoon is such a muddy sounding system.

Is this the single DIN radio? If so, I'd have to disagree. I think the Monsoon sounds great for a stock radio. 100% better with a sub.

Luxury package is awesome.
Sit back and enjoy the ride.
Favorite feature rearview diming mirror when I get high beamed. I can still see fool your gonna need a flood light.

The Monsoon has to be the best sounding stock system i've ever heard (next to by buddies Bose system in his S4).
The only thing that some (not me) might want is more bottom end. It doesn't "boom", but is has very clean tight and accurate bass.
An excellent system for th $400 list price!

Got the lux too...not being the type to tinker with car stereo's, I find the Monsoon to be excellent...I mean, how loud do you really need your music?...sunroof is a definite must in Miami...especially because the hunnies like 'em...

No this is the cd & tape all in one. The salesperson said mine was the first one of the 2002's he's gotten in with that radio. But when i was test driving a jetta with the single DIN I fell it had that same "canned sound". It has pretty good bass response. it's just kinda "muddy". And yes, i've tried every concievable combo of low mid & high setting. I'm an audio snob though, got spoiled with my old maxima's Bose system, dam that system was nice.

The stock speakers are pretty good, and if you combine them with an decent aftermarket HU they will should sound every bit as good as a monsoon system, if not better.
