This was started by bunch of people on the text to try and get a good list of junkyard tuning and up grades for our cars.
Im cheap so I like this kind of thing. Thought I would help out some w/ a good list that gets rid of all the crap and gets to the point.
like everyone wanted (NOTE Some of these may require a little modding to work right). Thought I should butter it up with some eye candy to get everyone more involved hopefully is up to date if not post
up the fixes or more things to add to the list. Lets try not to trash this.. Thanks all.
...So here it is the new list
Junkyard find

-944 heater control sliders fit a2's
-Some models of Jaguars have straight threw resonators that could be used in a home made performance exhaust
-hydro brackets are $8 at a junker vs. $40 from TT!!
-Mk2 rear door handles work on front doors for the shaved lock look
- audi interior door handes can be made to work with a little cutting of the doorcard for the whole assembly or some dremeling on the pull handle

-Later Hyundai's w/ the bosch fuel injection, and either the 12V or 16V engine have Bosch idle stabilizers and they are the same exact ISV's as
CIS-E engines (16v's and 8v's) and normally these hyundais have low miles and is a cheap option to buying a new one from the VW dealership.
-Early Audi's (4000's, and Coupe/Coupe Quattros) normally around the 85/84 and earlier years and
earlier porsches.. (looks like early mk1 rocco and mk1 gti steering wheels) steering wheels as small splined MK1's and Mk2's..
-CIS fuel distributer box bottom off Volvos so you can put a cone filter on it instead of having a plastic stock airbox.

-Audi 5000's have a CAI type of tube hooked up to there airbox, which can be used in a DIY CAI
-MK3 93 through some 95(2.0) have a forged crank good for the FI swaps (Tell buy the casting)
-BMW E30 have trunk mounted batteries stock and a slick nice firewall mounted distribution block, good to free up some room in the front

-M1 (possibly M2) Miatas also have a trunk mount battery, the battery it self is a small gel-cell
-quantum window regulators will fit small door cars and rabbits with a little modification (?)
-Most oil caps on Aircooled, Mk1, Mk2, and mk3 8v, Fox, and some Old School Audi 5cyls are interchangable.
Old bugs, some rabbits, and very few a2's,and some turbo Audi's had either Chrome or Galvanized oil caps.
They are pretty easy to polish.. obviously the chrome is a bit shinier, but with some elbow greese you can get a galvanized cap pretty shinny as well.
...older BMW caps are also galvanized and do fit

-Ford taurus tray slide+hide cup holders fit perfectly into the center console
second generation Ford/Mercury Taurus and Sables. And some Saab 9000's

-Turbo Volvo's have an oil cooler w/ a sandwich plate that will bolt directly to a VW
(8AN-16x1.5mm fittings that fit into the adapter plate)
Saabs also have a good set up
Gen 2 Rx7 oil cooler

-Heated seats in your MKII...Audi Quattro's (N/A) the seats are heated and bolt directly into any MKII
-audi quattro Steering wheel and turn/signal w/cruise control also fit MKII(add cruise control to your car)*one wiring harness must be altered(1 or 2 wires)
-Dual fan shroud set up is from an 90 - 93 passat 16v to move more air
-vw jetta diesel radiator bolts into your gasoline powered dub, it's larger, holds more coolant....cheap cooling system upgrade.
-vaccuum operated door lock actuators are all the same for Audi and VW, including the "pressure/vaccuum" pump.
-High Amp alternators(90/100amp) from Audi 5K's fit MkII.
-A 140 amp GM alternator off a Pontiac Bonniville SSEI will fit an 8v motor with a little braket to extend the ajuster. It also has a 1 wire turn on. Great up grade from the 90 amp stock alternators
-Intercooler off of most FI cars for Turbo and SC cars Volvos,VW,Saabs,Audis, ect

-The front lip spoiler can be used off a bronco 2 to bring a big bump pretty far down, it's perfectly flat so it may need some modding to make it look good, but it's big so there's room for error
-mk2 accordian shift boots in good shape
-Rear hatch struts from the Bronco IIs are direct fits.(extra strong)
-Cold start Valves from most 80's Audi's give a little extra juice.
-Mk3 rear beams put your rear wheels out 6mm wider than Mk2's.
-New bug oil breather for the head

-4 Cylinder CIS and CIS-E Fuel distributors from Audi's work on Mk2's
-Power trunk button:
Go find a Hyundai Excel (Mk1 vintage, my parts came out of an 89). This might work with other cars, but I think the Hyundai was easiest to remove. Open the hatch/trunk and look at the lock area (for hatches remove the cover).
There should be a big metal cylinder with a rod in it. Undo the rod part, and take out the cylinder. This is the solenoid. Go to the dashboard and pop out the trunk button. It should pry out with a screwdriver.
When you get back to your car, wire the button in series from the fuse block to the switch (use the Bentley to find a free terminal from the dome light fuse or something, or use a tap-in connector), then back to the solenoid.
Use a hose clamp to hold the solenoid in your trunk (I attached it to one of those wire clip holes). use a thin metal wire, and wrap it around the lock trigger (you have to take the latch assembly off to do this).
Put the latch back on and wrap the other end around the solenoid's rod. Volía, you have a trunk button.
-B3 were from 1990 to 1993. A mid-size version of the MK2 Gli 16v. (same motor) - so if you have one of those, there is plenty to scavenge.
-5-speed shifter assy. from a Passat (B3) fits into our cars and has a nice short throw to it...
-B3 Passat warning lights fit in our switch blanks
-B3 Passat Hood Release Cable is a bit longer than ours, but it will work
-B3 Passat trunk lining and trim as well as the storage compartments will fit in our trunks
-Some early 80's audis came with chrome door handles that work with a little swaping of the mk2 ones parts

-A3 Golf/Jetta Comfort modules can be adapted to open and close the power windows on a suitabley equipped A2
-B3 Passat Automatic Shifter Handles fit A2 automatics
-VR6 Coolant resovoir - it's bigger than the 4 cylinder ones and has more overflow containment capacity.
-A3 Golf/Jetta turn signal and wiper stalks will fit our cars as well
-late model MK2s that have those nice thick plastic rain tray covers to replace those crappy thin ones from the early cars
-Audi 90 hoop style headrests fit our seats

-shave door handles use a trunk popper from any fox platform mustang (Late 80's early 90's Mustang. Not sure how far back they go but the last year they were built was 93)
-944 Porsche Door Handles come black, polish out nice too much and it turns gold

-MK3 door handles are nice.
-most mk1s some older mk2s have metal flanges over the thermastat on the pump before vw got cheap and went to plastic
This applys for most of the flanges on the head and block of early cars
Also applys to the breather on 2.0 16v early ones are most likely metal

-MK3 swaybars are an upgrade for mk2 cars.
-Any MKII (watch MFA and cruise) swap your small stalks for big stalks, remove wheel, three screws and a couple plugs. Simple conversion.
-Grab some wiring, and three prong delay dome light
-MKI,MK3,MK3,MK4,corrado dash swaps need it all
-MK3 center console swap.
-MK3 weighted shift selector rod

-Audi 5000 TB swap for those of you that really think this is different
-ANY narrowband O2 sensor will work in any car....The only difference may be the bung which it screws into, but you can match that up with your old O2 at the junkyard
The differences are
1 wire, no heater circuit, grounds through the exhaust
2 wire, w/heater circuit, both the sensor and heater ground through exhaust
3 wire, heater circuit has it's own ground
4 wire, heater and sensing circuit have their own grounds
To use a sensor with less wires than the one that came on your car would be a downgrade so don't do it.
If you want to use a 4 wire sensor, just connect the other ground wire for it to a good ground
New ask for 89 Mustang V8. You need to cut and splice the heater wire connector but the rest is the same. I also hear KIAs work, but I don't know any specific models
-Toyota celica's came with air water intercoolers, try looking for 88 up till the late 90s
-Ford lightnings come with bosch electric coolant pumps
-Ford Mustang 70mm throttle body for the turbo guys
-passat auto throttle body for the turbo guys
-g60 throttle bodys for the FI guys geting hard to come buy

-Cessna airplanes come with a plethora of gauges that can be used in our cars. Mainly cylinder head temp and temperature in/out guages, EGT gauge should work too.
-The door latches(part that hits the striker) from an Audi 200 (nice crome ones) will fit on a mk2 w/ a little modding of the rod in the door inside pices from your old one.

-European passats/santanas gx5 inner door pulls are chromed and fits nicely on mk2 golfs/jettas... maybe quantums or similar in america have the same !!
-Need to run a cis head in a digi car, use a fuel rail off a digi fox, it fits right into the cis/cis/e injector things
-mk2 Black sunvisors
-Bumper addition from turbo volvo's on mk2 smalls

-mk2 oh **** handle for above the driver door
-MKIII VR mufflers look good on big bumpers
-Tilt-and-slide sunroofs will fit from Scirroco,audi 4000 1980-1987 including quattro,and the volkswagen quantum 1982-1988
-Quantums and Audi 4000s the sunroof motors swap for the crank style - (fab or score cover, switch and wires need) (5000 and 80/90 motors are the same, though the roofs are different)

-Blinker and wipers switches from both an early Porsche 924/944 and all Audi 4000s will fit A2s.
-Corrado G60 valve covers cast not stamped one

-Steering wheels/adapters in 74-79 Bugs....they are the same as mk2 small spline.
-Always look for cool retro aftermarket stuff in Rabbits.
-Vr6 strut mounts are a a good upgrade up front

-Big Brake kits the poormans way
8v and some 16vs - 9.4
all other 4 lug except corrado (16vs, mk3s, passat b3s, etc) = 10.1
corrado = 11
The bigums are found on the VR6, which are, indeed, 5 lug.
-Rear disc brake caliper from any Audi(NON-Quattro) will fit MKII rear disc assy,
-The necessary spindles for upgrading front brakes came on 10.1 mk2 16v, Corrado G60, just about anything with an ABA (don't forget cabrios and B4 passats), and four-lug B3's.
If you go 11" brake, your old 14" won't fit on the front anymore 15"req.
-Girling 60 calipers came on a variety of Audis (100Q, 200, 200Q, 5000Q/T/TQ UrA6,S2, Quattro, V8). Just look for the two big pistons and the "60" marking. The carrier is needed too.

-22 mm master cylinder most MK3s,B3s and up
-25.4mm master cylinder from Audi 200 Quattro
-B3 passat springs can be used to lift a mk2.
-Block off plates can be use for FI installs

-B3 passat Syncro parts can be used to do a syncro conversion on a mk2, due to those cars having transverse motors, unlike, quantums, audis, and later Passats. If you're near Canada, this might be somewhat feasible.
-the side markers on the sides of some Audi bumpers can be inserted into the holes on the aft part of mk2 fenders, as euro side repeaters.
-Gauges VDOs (Oil Temp, Oil Press, Battery Volt) from MkI Rabbit GTIs, Audis Sciroccos, Golfs, Jettas, and Cabrio and almost identical to the current "Cockpit" series
Do not foget to grab the dual switch sender so you can run you dummy light too.

-mk2 power window setup...you get the point
-mk3 foglight projectors can be worked into mk2 housings, and from what I hear, are sturdier.
-mk3 shift knobs are pretty comfortable versus the doorknobs that came stock in mk2s.

Re: *** Guide to JunkYard Tuning *** (XXXgti)

-VW and audi door inserts black and polished

-rear spoiler from the newer style audi 5000 wagon(?) can be used as a sweet spoiler either under the upper edge on a jetta, or right through where the third wiper is on the golf.
Fits PERFECTLY and looks pretty sick. it's the spoiler that goes through the glass.
-3.5 bar FPR from a 944s for digi1 Bosch part# 0 280 160 263 Porsche part # 944 110 198 03
-a 85-92 s-10 (blazer or pickup) front lip spoiler up to my car and it looks like it would fit with little or no modification...and its plenty deep, like a duckbill but straight down instead of pointing out...
-Tranny codes for our 020s located on bottom of bell housing. Good gears for highway driving .071 and .075 for fifth, or if you are in to raceing the 4.25 ECO-diesel FD big http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Or do a 02a tranny swap if you find a car w/ all the fixens.
-Drive axls most gas transmissions in Digi applications (ie 100hp and up) are 100mm flanges, while most CIS and Diesel applications (85-90 hp) are 90mm flanges. The exception to this are of course 85+ Sciroccos and Cabs, and some early A2 Jetta GLs.

-Mk2 rear door handles work on front doors for the shaved lock look

You need to swap the actuating arm. Pop out the pin holding it in place, and replace with a same-side front door arm.

-Heated seats in your MKII...Audi Quattro's (N/A) the seats are heated and bolt directly into any MKII

Any VAG heated seat will work. The switch plug is the same (so you can use a Mk2 switch, and all the system needs is switched power, ground, and dimmer 9for the switch). The harnesses are not interchangeable though (for example, mk2s have the control modules on the relay block, Passats have them under the seats). But for a whole harness swap into your current seat, it will work.

-vw jetta diesel radiator bolts into your gasoline powered dub, it's larger, holds more coolant....cheap cooling system upgrade.

I always thought the 16v radiator was just as big... but I could be wrong. Diesel and 16v oil pumps are also bigger then standard 8v pumps.

-vaccuum operated door lock actuators are all the same for Audi and VW, including the "pressure/vaccuum" pump.

Passat and A3 pumps are bigger (designed to work with the alarm system), and the A3 actuators are built into the lock, but Audi ones are the same. You can use a Passat driver's door actuator if you want 4 door power locks with an aftermarket system (alternative to installing a solenoid).

You stole that from me!
God, I wrote that YEARS ago.
A land Rover Discovery's sunroof switch looks just like Mk2 power window switches, with a sunroof logo, so it will match the interior nicely (they light up too I think).

WHOA what a thread, great info. Can't wait to stop by a junkyard now!
I did the volvo front like 5 years ago, looked pretty good. we cut out part of the middle to make it fit, as the volvo is alot wider than the mk2.
