Is it worth gutting out the cat?
Will it help any, or make it worse?
How much does it change the sound?
I've done it on lots of cars, just not a VR6 VW yet.

Gutting the Cat on a VR might gain you a couple of HP if you are lucky. Leave it alone, stop gutting catalytic converters, and enjoy the fact that you have air to breathe that isn't completely toxic yet.

If your gona do it do it right. Port the exhaust manifold, get a tt cat, and a good cat back system (which I'm sure you already have).

I have a TT SS cat-back.
My catalytic converter has been rattling, so I think it's about ready to explode. I don't really want to pay some insane amount of money for a replacement, especially if I can gain a few HP or MPG by removing it.
I don't drive the car alot, so hopefully I won't pollute more then my lawnmower.

go to a exhaust shop.. have them wled in a 2.5 inch test pipe. got mine done for 30 bucks or so. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif they can weld the 02 bung back in there too http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

edit : i thought he meant welding the test pipe inside the cat.

gut it! i dont know how much power u gain but i know for a fact that you definintely feel it !!! yes you will not pass emissions, but that only means i will have to pay a guy a bit mroe to do it.
i have no regrets!
