Hard Cold Start?

Hey all hope the thankgivin's were good. Left my GTi for 5 days epecting the stoopid alpine alarm and head units lights that stay (POs wiring) on would drain my battery...it did. Jumped him and he would turn over immediately but slowly and finally cranked up it was about 60F. My GTi has always had to crank a few seconds before it hits. Drove him last nite and he was starting on his own and my volts were like 14 so I thought I was all good. This morning about 40F no battery! Jumped again. Cranked him for uncofortably long periods over about 20minutes...no start! I've got new plugs coming in the mail and know I need new plug wires but they haven't made the engine miss yet even at high RPMs. Any ideas? My alternator and battery seem golden. On the high note my 66 deluxe bus started first hit and hasn't been cranked for over 2 weeks... gotta love aircooled dependability

Thanks,
Eric

Well I guess I'll check the cold start valve, if anyone cares it cranked up in the normal crank time today on lunch, I might throw some 5w30 syntec in there before I move up north.

Eric- Check your coolant temp sensor as well.
Re: Hard Cold Start? (Trav)

Put in new plugs and my car hits a lot better. Funny thing is a brakeparts cleaner can had bridged my amps draining my battery! I posted before I could investigate

run a nice fat wire from the battery ground to the head. used to play hell with my 16v in the cold, now she starts up before i barely turn the key no matter what temp outside.
