I ate a "Stage 4" G60 the other day in my VR6... I'm guessing primarily because of his gigantic wheels and crappy start... but... I wasn't too impressed

Off the line??
A modded G60 has more torque at 2000RPM than a modded VR6 gets at peak.
Let's do the math on your original question.
New VR6 golf :160WHP 160ft/lbs 2950LBS
My G60 Jetta : 190WHP 204ft/lbs 2400LBS
G60Jasons golf : 174WHP 180ft/lbs 2400LBS
VR6? Not gonna happen until it's boosted.

Stock for Stock the VR6 lays the smack down on a G60.....quote, auotfile, 94'...."Add the corrados superb engine to the mix and things get better. In supercharged guisethis was a chasis in search of a better engine. Now its found it. we've said the Corrado can stick like a leech, and that hasnt changed. Turn in is still go-kart quick and overall handling remains light and agile."

Ah, but they were probably driving an unmodded G60. Stage IV is a different ballgame... and there's no such thing as a Stage IV VR6 (well... not for under 2 grand). Stock G60 makes under 160 crank hp and lb/ft, compared to the dyno numbers above, then _that's_ a moot point.
But what does it matter? I love my SLC, it is definitely the smoothest engine I've encountered and has plenty of go (and can cruise quietly at 1500 rpm in 5th gear and manage to accelerate, what else do I need?)
