I'm just about to order an ECS variable fuel pressure regulator: http://www.ecstuning.com/stage...=Fuel
From what I can tell, from reading the old threads on the subject:
- upgraded fuel pressure regulators are largely useless, if not unhelpful, on unmodified engines;
- that they can give you a 1whp improvement on a modified VR6 engine; but more importantly
- they can help get rid of pinging in engines running lean.
Moreoever, going from a 3 bar to a 4 bar FPR is bit hit and miss and for best results a variable fuel pressure regulator is the way to go.
For my application, (Big Valve Head, 268 cams, 268 GIAC chip, EIP throttle body, intake, Mk IV head gasket and VGI in an engine that pings), I'm thinking that the ECS kit is the way to go.
Has anyone any views on, or experiences with this?

I don't know the answer to your first question. That may well have to occur, but the car will definitely be put on a dyno to get the fueling sorted out.

more fuel does not = more power.
more air = more power.
more air = more fuel.
more fuel does not = more air.
If you are running lean then either get a new chip or else try going the FPR way. I would prefer the chip tuning way because it's a more accurate and less ghetto way of doing things in my eyes.
If you are already doing fine fuel wise... you'd just be wasting fuel.
