[forced fed]

I really love the look of the MK4 lights I have on my MK3. I have read and seen that you can paint them to get the smoked/blacked out look they sell now. My question if you have done it is:
What type of paint?
Did you have a hard time sealing the outer casement so no moister leaks in?
do you have to scuff up the chrome/metallic finish before painting??
Was it worth it? (looks really nice to me)

Any info would be great. TIA

i think i read a whie back when brad painted his before the smoked look came out that the opened them and then just painted them with normal ppg paint, but i coud be wrong ask the mk4 kiddies im sure some of them painted thier headlights

i used the joey guide to do it. i used normal glossy black paint. dont remember which kind offhand. the case was easy to seal off. no problems with leaking at all. you dont have to scuff up the finish...well i didnt anyways and it works fine. and it was worth it for me but i might change back at some point. im always looking for different looks. but i think they look great
btw, be careful with the tape. that stuff can pull the chrome right off so be careful where you put it.

Anand20v just did his last week and I think GTI PSYCHO did his also, not sure. You may want to IM or email them, they're in the MK4 forum or MidAtlantic

wow great responses thank you!!! Well i feel much more comfortable now that i have my hands on the Joey guide!!!! Sounds pretty darn easy, and i like the way it looks!! sounds like i will be doing it. Should look cool on ginster. I love cheap mods, it doesn't happen much!!! Thanks again. its called the "joey ghetto in pro mod" in the mkIV forum. Just search Joey Ghetto or something im sure you will find TONS... some people succeed and some dont... I guess you just gotta try.
