i am ready to get a new car and have been looking into the corrados. but all i seem to find are the horror stories of how much goes wrong. is it really that bad? has anyone had a reliable one. i know things will go wrong, but how bad is it really.
i do almost all work on cars myself, so im pretty handy when it comes to that. im helping my brother with an engine swap, and my previous rx7 turbo2, i replaced tons of stuff in that (inlcuding all suspension, tranny, rear diff., starter motor, pretty much everything but the actual engine).
i really like the look of the corrados, and like all the positives that i have heard about them. can you all shed some light on the subject of repairs and how much things really cost?
Thank you,
CR

Re: Has anyone's Corrado been reliable (at all)???? (CR)

The only problem I've had with my C the two years I have had it is the charger that I had to replace, but 13000km without renovation is perhaps not the best for it...
Other than that there has not been any problems

the C i have (before i had it mind you) had no problems WHATSOEVER before 163,000 miles, and its a '91. not even supercharger problems. It is an automatic though. now the tranny's gone.

If you do your own work the only annoying problems are paying for the expensive parts thta go wrong...I.e. sunroof, and Gladder (if you get a G60)... along with having the dealer do a heater core recal. All the other problems seem to be stuff you could handle yourself.

I know i am going to jinx myself, but i bought my 91' basicly new (under 3k miles) and heavily modified it right off the bat the first month and have driven it Quite agressively it's whole life and it's almost scary how reliable it's been.
I do a LOT of maintenance though.

Re: Has anyone's Corrado been reliable (G60NUT)

In about 1.5 years of ownership I have spent about $500-600 to fix things that have broken on the car. By the spring, I will have spent about $1200 in basic mods. However, the PO didn't drive the car all that much, and except for the first year that I owned it, neither do I. I should note that my A/C doesn't work, and I yet to tackle that problem, so you might want to add another couple hundred on to the $600 quoted above. Overall, I think the Corrado has been quite reliable for me. Though I have had good luck with all the VW's I have owned

i tend not to answer these questions cause they jinx the car.
But you hear the negative cause people only speak of the negative cause they need help with their problems. If you start to praise your car you start to come off as a Chris J.

Exactly. What do you do on the Vortex if there are no problems/questions to solve? That's why we're all here!

Re: Has anyone's Corrado been reliable (at all)???? (CR)

A lot has to do with how well the car has been taken care of by its previous owners. Yetiman is a good example. He's had the car for ages, and though he has modded it a lot and drives it hard, he's done all the maintenance that keeps it reliable. When you run into trouble is when you've got people who drive hard and don't fix what needs to be done.
I've invested a ton of money on my Corrado to get it reliable. I've had the car 9 months and I'm only now beginning to feel like it is reliable. I've got a few issues I'm working with, but in general, I'm very happy with how the car has rehabilitated.
Now I just need to get the body and paint looking good. That's in the works... even as I speak.
Good luck,
Peter

Re: Has anyone's Corrado been reliable (snowbird)

Mine's had a lot of problems, but since it also has 177,000 on the clock, I guess it is allowed to. Basically, if you find a Corrado that has been well cared for, you won't be sorry. I think the vast majority of the people who talk about how unreliable their Corrado either bought a car that someone else trashed, or they are running it hard and heavily modified.
To give you an idea, one of my older brothers owned an A3 Jetta VR6 for about two years. Bought it pretty new (about 15k miles i think.) He put more money into that thing in two years than I have into my Corrado.
Another guy up here near Syracuse, NY is the original owner of his 1990 g60. It has 70k miles on it, and he's replaced the rear brake pads and the clutch (the clutch failed due to manufacturing defects, it didn't wear out.) Other than that stuff and regular maintenance, it has run perfect. It even still has the original winshield washer fluid in it from the factory.

Re: Has anyone's Corrado been reliable (B(C)orrado)

Never had any real problems with mine.
got a flat tire once, that was the biggest thing, and i had to change a hose once. Oh, and there is something wrong with the passenger side front speakers. I have been a nut when it comes to maintenence, and hardly even drive it anymore.

If you had an RX-7 a Corrado won't sem bad to you.
I can rely on my C to sit there and look pretty. Everthing I have ever broke has been my own damn fault. Except the waterpump and coolant fan, but they were easy to fix.

my never left me stranded any place. it dies in my driveway when stuff happens. i replace at least one thing ever couple of months. but that is what you get with a car that is 12 years old
