Has this ever happened to anyone?

My passenger side window fell out of its track and now won't stay up! Anyone have any tips or hints to help me as I attempt to take care of this? It happened to my 84 GTI years ago, but I never heard of it happening with an A2...
Here's the car

and I still know where a set of P wheels is if anyone in the MA area is looking for some...nobody replied last ime I asked

No, never heard of that happening. Check the regulator (cable and adjustments). It means removing the vapor barrier, so be prepared for putting a new one in.

Yup - same thing happened to me and I immediately purchased a new regulator (which I'd happily sell since I don't actually need it). The problem on my car is that the spot welds that hold the window to the regulator rusted out.
Once you remove the door panel and the vapor barrier, you'll see that the window can be easily placed back in it's original position and the window raised securely. However once you lower the window again, it'll fall off track b/c of the missing spot welds. I haven't tried to fix this issue but imagine that a creative welder could solve your problems.

Okay..so the window didn't fall out of its holder...the cable for the manual window crank caught, hung up and broke.
Anyone ever mess with this system? From the look of it I'm thinking the cable alone can't be replaced...do I need to get the whole system-cables, winder thingy, and whatever else- from a junker?
I only want to make one trip for parts if I can...so thanks for any help

I'd be interested in those P-wheels...

Yes my old "Thunder Tank" did however do the same thing. All you have to do is check the inside of the door. Look to see if anything is out of place, if you are wondering how? then go to a junk yard. look at the doors there. and compare. or just do what I did and troubleshoot. And yes fiat parts do fit... Ah yes, find parts off an old spyder. a little massaging and wallah!!

Nothing out of place, just a broken cable

easy to change so don't worry, just got to have the window held up and remove the old regulator and drop in the new, pretty easy
Re: Has this ever happened to anyone? (88cabrio)

The cable is integral to the regulator mechanism and cannot be replaced by itself - in other words, you need to buy a regulator unit.
