Yikes to all of that. I’ve got a buddy that’s had great luck with APR for software since getting his MK7 GLI last year, but hearing that makes me sick lol glad to hear everything is well now.

Yeah, in the end I'm happy I was able to get warranty coverage. I added up the bill with the parts and labor, and yikes. I've had good experience with APR and Uni on past cars, and had 034 ECU software on my previous S3 with no problems. This has definitely left a sour taste in my mouth now though.

Got some time due to the coronavirus and "working from home" and took off the customer setup I had and installed the AWE touring system. Fitment and quality are great as to be expected from AWE, but the Touring is too quiet with the stock DP, sooo time to get the Track adapter or get an exhaust shop to fab something up for cheap. It never ends . Also thinking of picking up a JB4 if anybody has one for sale

I was able to pickup a used JB4 earlier this week and installed it the other day, and it's basically exactly what I wanted. Gives the car a little more power without going full blown OTS tune. I was initially going to get a Neuspeed Power Module, but the community support of the JB4 won me over.

I also picked up and installed an AWE Touring to Track conversion from my friends at Nemesis Autosport. I know I could've gone to an exhaust shop for cheaper, but I like to keep everything from the same supplier if possible. Now the exhaust finally has some grunt to it! Kicking myself in the head for not getting the Track one from the beginning, but such is life. :banghead:

How's the drone, if any, with the Track exhaust?

If you release the negative terminal on your battery you can slide it forward and place the JB4 behind it. I ziptied mine to the firewall... you wouldn't even know it's there.

Also make sure you flash it to the latest firmware. If you are capable of running 93 octane you can run map 3. I'd say "a little pep" is a bit of an understatement for what you get :)

Way over due response, but I will try that out! I honestly don't know what firmware it has, it's been set it on Map 2 and forget it since I put it on

Figured I'd update this thread since I've been AFK for a while. So here's a few things that have happened:

  1. Curbed a wheel  (luckily it was only the rim guard)
  2. Took my car in for a 15K service (bought in Nov '18 and just passed 15K in June '20 )
  3. Ordered and installed folding mirrors with DAP. Luckily I was able to find a good deal on them b/c DAP and other shops charge a pretty insane amount and E-acca is basically shut down due to Covid. Also fitted up some Amazon special dynablink knock-offs which work like a charm
  4. Long overdue, but finally got ceramic window tint installed on the front windshield. Works like a dream since summer is in full effect now

Just curious...have you ever thought that your DSG issue could have been the shifter mechanism position micro switch? I had to get mine replaced twice (once under warranty and then again with the revised part when the recall came out) and your description sounds like what I had, minus the free-reving. Especially since your MFD was saying "push brake and select gear", like it didn't know what position it was in.

Love the car, the build, the photography and the choice of beer.
Thank you!

I'm not sure to be honest. The issue never happened before the tune or after the DSG was replaced. Speculating with some friends it's possible that DSG fluid wasn't completely filled from the factory and the extra strain from the tunes pushed it over the edge? Other than that nobody is really sure what happened.

Well I figured I'd update this thread, but my time with the GTI is no more. A few weeks back I got bored and got some Carvana/Vroom offers that were pretty crazy so I decided to take advantage of it. In the end I flew out to Washington DC and picked up a leftover 2019 Ranger and drove it back to Dallas. It seems like most people go with a Taco after getting a VAG car, but to me it wasn't anything special other than their insane resale values. However, the Ranger had a better drive train (IMO) and better interior which is what won me over.

Anyways, thanks for everybody who looked and chimed in on this thread!. Hopefully I'll be back in the VAG car eventually as I want to get a B8.5 RS5 as a weekend car in a few years, but we'll see how the used market plays out on those.

Most of my parts have been sold but I do have the following remaining if anybody is interested: JB4, S2T Shift Paddles, BBS CH-R

Best of luck with the new vehicle! Have any sort of asking price in mind for the wheels? I might have someone who’d be interested but they’d have to be shipped to Milwaukee, WI

Wow. V-Dub GTI to Ford Ranger: Talk about the difference between chalk and cheese! Hope it works out for you, sir.

Nota bene: You have a great eye for photography. I'm going to miss your pics. Take care. Stay well.
It's definitely a different experience! Sitting up high and not worrying about potholes or big dips in the road is a nice change though, I do miss the go kart feeling the GTI though. Can't really zip in and out of traffic in this one

And thank you! I do have a thread on the Ranger forums where I'll post some pics there (shameless plug ). Otherwise I do have an instagram where I post pictures to from time to time (@hbb_photo) if you want to check that out

Thank you! Right now I'm thinking around $2600 shipped. I'll clean them up and take some proper pictures this weekend. The wheels are ceramic coated and the tires have about 7K miles on them so there's still plenty of life in them. If they're interested, feel free to shoot me a PM
