Dual Round http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif - with relays you can have 400W of high beams
and nice, unobtrusive lows...
Single round http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif : loks euro and unique but looks "inexpensive" to the uninformed, can get decent lights, looks great badgeless
Aero (stock look but the Euro version) http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif good beam pattern and stealthy
- looks bone stock (until you hit the brights and blister the paint on street signs...). Also eliminates those DOT-spec'd 3 bumps on the lens, making them easy to clean. This is what I have - with stock from-the-dealer-in-1990 griled Bosch olde-school fogs handing below my dinky small bumpers.
Ralleye http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
EXTREMELY expensive, but great light and unique as #ell
LSRO's (Little Square Recessed Ones): Only found on Golfs in '85 and '86, easy to upgrade, can get replacements at WalMart. Had 'em on my wife's old '85, they provide a smattering of light in front of the vehicle and inform oncoming drivers that there's a car coming, other than that they're, well, plain. Finding it difficult to say much more positive about 'em.

dixonL2:
I have ordered some euro spec rectangular headlights for my GLI (and they will go with a badgeless grille). Are you 100% happy with them? How much brighter are they than US? Pics? Just curious......
Re: headlight options (Veedubgli)

Re: headlight options (qka2)

veedubGLI: I have the euro aero lights - H4 bulbs with city lights. They're certainly noticably better than the stock USA model lights, but also different in some key areas:
1) The beam cutoff is more distinct - almost unnerving, in that there's a sharp horizontal cutoff, above which there's very little light. On curvy mountain roads you can get into a situation where you're coming into a downhill left hander and not see the entire road because you don't have enough beam scatter. With fogs it's OK - they make up for it.
2) The beam in front of the car is more ewven - not splotchy like the stock USA model lights.
3) The bulbs are slightly brighter in "stock" 55/60W configuration, with relays you can run 55low, 100W high (which is what I run) and get some "aircraft landing light" high beams - like laser beams.
4) The high beams are night and day different - better, more focused.
They look ENTIRELY stock unless you know what you're looking for - which is an advantage, stealth-wise. The city lights do kind of give them away, though. I've had my wife following me in my car and the lights have a little of that euro-look to them, they're not just bright white blotches but you can see some patter in the lights themselves, but nothing obnoxious (again, you have to be looking for it to see it).
I had the quad euros (7" outside, 4" inside) on my old '91 16V GTI - the quads are better on high beam (twice the lighting - the aeros are amazing, the quads are unbelievable) but they're quite comparable on low. The USA dual-rounds are awful, blotchy.
Hope this helps - sorry, no pics to post but if I can find one and email it I will - trust me, they look really stock, nothing amazing.

Re: headlight options (dixonL2)

Thanks for the info. I like how they will look stock............To me it is still gonna look better though, just due to the fact that they are brand new! (My real stock ones are showing their age)
Re: headlight options (Veedubgli)

I love my e-codes. they look great, and perform great too. too bad I'm converting to singles this summer. I'm going for a more euro-look. but I still highly recommend e-code aeros.

Re: headlight options (slowjettagli)

Anybody have ONE H4 aero that they might want to get rid of? I got the passenger side cheap, but now I need the match. I am glad to hear that they wil work well once I have the set.
Re: headlight options (Fettes Brot)

Re: headlight options (Fettes Brot)

I was thinking clear as in the Inpro clear rounds, your's are the same polycarbonte material? or just regular glass...

If so, who makes them and where did you buy them?
Thanks. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
