Since I have a turbo, it is not recommended installing the Hella Micro DE's b/c it blocks some of the air movement over the intercooler. Would a front 4-mo val help that out at all? I know it's lower, but with the cut outs, do you think that might help with the air flow? I would love to get the E-codes, but I really like the look of foglights in those grilles.
Re: Hella Micro DE's, Front 4-mo val., and a turbo? (pooz01wolfsburg)
Here is another question along those same lines... will the 'generic' Hella micro DE's (read: without vents) install into the vent openings in the 4 motion front valance or are the light fixtures too big?
Re: Hella Micro DE's, Front 4-mo val., and a turbo? (pooz01wolfsburg)
No the 4-mo valance will not help flow over the IC. It might direct more air to the brakes. If you look into the pass. side of the front bumper there is an actual duct that directs the air to the IC. You might be able to get away with adding the lights if you cut slots into the fender liner a cheaper and easier version of the TT fender mod. Unfortunately that's a big question mark. If you really want to try it you can buy the lights and if you want borrow me and my VAG-Com for a day to see what the effect would be of the lights on the air flow over the IC.

Hey, you're in Randolph huh??!! I think we talked on these boards before. I know this is off topic, but e-mail me if you wanna have a GTG in our area: [email protected] I don't know many other VW'ers.

Uh oh... I see where this is going. Oh well, I guess my idea wasn't going to work after all!

Kind of an expensive experiment, but I appreciate the offer. I guess it's on to E-codes instead!

Yeah, I live over by CCM. You could make card board cut outs that block the same amount of area. I am sure with a pic the area blocked could be roughly figured out. If you want to gtg let me know when and where

This opens another can of worms....Show me a FMIC that has piping that would actually still let you mount your micro DE's. I want to get a FMIC, but absolutely REFUSE to lose the DE's. If anyone has a solution to this, please post it.
Re: Hella Micro DE's, Front 4-mo val., and a turbo? (kreuzerGOLF18T)
Man, what a process it is for these damn lights! Would be nice if they made a kit for turbo's, with the lights on the inside edge of the grille, not the outside!
Re: Hella Micro DE's, Front 4-mo val., and a turbo? (moclov)
The fender liner won't help if there is no air being passed through the front of the intercooler first. I just don't understand why the IC wasn't designed to be front-mounted to begin with. Anyone care to explain??
Re: Hella Micro DE's, Front 4-mo val., and a turbo? (pooz01wolfsburg)
Me email is [email protected] VW probably made the IC side mount for space saving measures. After looking over my car. It seems that the 1.8t motor was an after thought by VW. They didn't want to mess with the front end for production and crash testing purposes. Besides an FMIC would have made the intake tubing longer increasing the turbo lag. Which would be a crime since there is hardly any lag to begin with
Re: Hella Micro DE's, Front 4-mo val., and a turbo? (memnuts)
Yeah, that does make a lot of sense! Maybe I'll rig up something to block some of the air flow on the one side and see is there are any changes using your VAG-COM.
