okay, so here's my dilemma. i've got the MK4 style headlights, but i don't have any of the paperwork that came with them, and i need to know what type of bulb the middle one is. i've tried looking on the bulb itself but none of the numbers lead me anywhere. the reason i ask is because i want to put a blue bulb in there. this leads me to my next question. i may set up the middle light as a city light, or maybe a turn signal. has anyone done this with a colored bulb? do you know if it's DOT approved? i'd hate to get pulled over for having a blue turn signal. i hope this makes sense! thanks!
It's a wedge bulb, 168 is the number, but it's pretty much the only bulb that is that size, shape, and style. The come in tons of colors and are available anywhere.
Blue is illegal as said above, if you do anything other than Yellow or amber, it's illegal, you can get away with White usually. Running lights can be white to amber like citylights, fogs, etc, but Turn indicators have to be Amber or yellow in most states.
The bulb is a 168 I think, but I have a pair of Blue 194s in mine (same bulb basically) Looks tight, but only on when not driving.
So 168 or 194 will fit.
if the bulb is blue like the vwvortex sign then yea, they are not allowed. but you can get those hyper-white bulbs that shine white with a tint of blue? ya kno! like on bmw's and mercedes and stuff!
well i originally wanted like, royal blue BLUE. but i can see how they won't go for that, since it's the color of police lights haha. flick on the turn signal and everyone pulls over
i'll probably stick with amber for now. with the amount of ideas that run through my head, i'll have forgotten about it in a week anyhow haha.
