HELP. Can't do rear wheel alingment on 98 GTI VR6.

I got alingment but the mechanic couldn't allign rear wheels. They told me that they couldn't make rear shims to work because they interfeared with some sensor, ABS I think. Is it possible to allign them?? Should I go to the stealership and get raped? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

you dont need a rear wheel alingment
i switch spring 3 times and never needed a rear alingment
when you get the front aligned they align the front do it by the rear wheels
i dont know th e technical terms that the use but thats how firestone told me they do it i always go to them they never give me the oh well your cars lower so it will cost $400

Depending on how much the toe or camber is out, it can have an affect on tire wear. I know you can shim them as I have had mine done by Gemini ( Goodyear). A friend is the service manager and is into dubs. Maybe your shop is unfamiliar with dubs.

Unless the reading is way out of spec, it is up to you whether or not it is worth it. You most likley won't see much tire wear from not doing the rear shims if it's close.
Get a second estimate maybe from Gemini in CA.

Sc'd_Thumper, toe in rear is off too much to let it slide. Camber is off too but only slightly probably because my car is dropped. Can you hook me up with Gemnis ph # or something? Thanks.

Check out this link for a Goodyear retailor in your area.

Swingarm suspension would not change camber or toe appreciably with dropping.
Unless you slammed into something... the rear should be just fine. Post some #'s. Stock camber is -1.2 degrees.
