Am doing the front brakes on my 98 Jetta GLX. Have new pads and new rotors. They need it bad.
Problem is... the old rotors are worn down and there is a lip at the edge of the rotors now. I cant get the caliper off passed this lip.
Any ideas how to work the calipers off?

You need to use a prybar and pry between the caliper and the caliper carrier to push the caliper piston in beyond the "lip" I really can't think of a better way to describe it...
make sure to take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir since you'll be pushing fluid into it.

Prying did it. Just needed more force than I thought.
Rotor didn't want to come off either, but the other side came off easy.
The old learning curve. First side took almost 2 hours. Second one took 30 minutes.
